Last month I ordered something from the UK and Chicago customs had it for 3 weeks.
Last Friday I ordered something from the UK, Chicago customs processed it in one day, and it’s already out for delivery.

It’s been greatly hit or miss.
Looks like this one is a miss. Tracking still says "out for delivery." The mail was delivered but there is no package.

It does have tracking. Last update shows “in transit” on July 21.
Definitely be patient. I ordered something a month and a half ago and it shipped USPS the next day. It had tracking and took 5 weeks to arrive. In that same time, I had ordered stuff from New York that took 5 days to arrive.

The package from Chicago had tracking and had an expected delivery date 5 days from ship date. It also updated as it left the main Chicago hub to go to the next one. From that hub it said "in transit" for the next 28 days and the expected delivery date disappeared. It eventually got to my "local" hub and took another week to get to me. That "local" hub is 45 minutes away from my house.

That has happened to me. Almost always get it the next day.

Bought a watch from Japan last week. Shipped Aug 3, arrived US West Coast on Aug 4. 😲

Crystal ordered from UK 2 weeks ago, shipped July 30 via Royal Mail/USPS, finally departing Queens USPS Regional Facility Aug 8.

Understandably, the big ISCs in NY and Chicago are struggling to keep up. We need to be patient and cut them some slack.

400 milliion pieces of junk mail. 🙁
Junk mails not the issue. Pre sorted delivered to the distribution center is little load on the system.

there are other issues... esp with what happened Friday.

What happened Friday?

At risk of making this thread political, the new Postmaster General ousted a lot of top officials at the same time that many states are trying to figure out voting by mail.

Can anyone beat my delay record?

Ordered something from Malaysia that was shipped priority on May 23rd...

Had it investigated, it’s still in customs in Los Angeles and has been there since the end of May. 👎

Incorrectly filled out customs papers?

The USPS agent said there was nothing unusual about the delay right now.
Has me thinking about how on earth they have the space to accommodate a couple months worth of backed up packages.

That's Customs, not USPS. USPS cannot do anything while Customs has the package. I believe the 'up to double the possible 45 day wait' is still in effect.

USPS seems to be extremely slow and unorganized at the moment. Bought something from Florida, tracking showed an estimated delivery time frame of 5 days. I’m currently at two weeks and the odd part is that the tracking has showed it leaving the Same origination facility 3 different times in the past few days.
It’s probably lost and that’s what they’re updating with while they “search” or it. All other items have left their origination facilities and have an estimated delivery date.

I believe they are supposed to rescan each night if the package did not get moved on.

Tracking shows it showed up there and has since left 3 times saying my package is “in transit” and showing up late. There was a span of 5 days there where there was no update.
I’m not holding my breath that it actually shows up. Tried calling the customer service the other afternoon was was given an estimated hold time of almost three hours. I waited for about an hour while I was doing some computer work and then hung up.
On the other hand I received a FedEx package a day ahead of schedule and send a package ups that showed up to its destination a day early.
USPS is very inefficient if you look into how the mail actually travels from where it left to where it’s going.

May be so, but the infrastructure is massive/ extensive, and not easy to change. Still, it's cheaper than flying every piece to a central distribution facility and then back out to regions. Not sure I want each letter or bill to cost $9.00 to send.

The mail wouldn’t have to go to a central distribution to be efficient. Each large city has its own facility so mailing from those areas is relatively easy. Most of America is rural and the way the system is setup already works the way you described except it’s trucked there, sorted and then trucked right back where it came from to be distributed. My mail travels about 200mi to that facility before it’s sent on the the next place. Waste of time, fuel and resources for me to mail something depending where it’s going. I will say that in most cases it’s pretty efficient, especially if you live near where the sorting facility is and it can leave there in a timely manor.
Either way, to the original point of the post, usps has seemed to be delayed where fedex and ups has not in my experiences.

Obviously CV has had a huge impact, what are your experiences on international shipping at the moment.

Pre-CV it was generally 10-14 days for a U.K.-US shipment.

I have some small low value shipments, with tracking taking over 5 weeks to arrive. Royal Mail -> USPS.

Normal in today’s environment? Would it make you more nervous on higher value transactions? Would you start to look at 24/48hr Fedex/UPS options?[/QUOT would make me more nervous on higher value transactions

For sure would make me more nervous in higher value transactions. I would consider Fedex and UPS for higher value transactions mostly

July 1 Package sent to me in Canada, and accepted at USPS in California. Package tours California until it departs for Vancouver on July 6

July 20 Still no updates since the 6th. I start to think the package is lost, and I mentally prepare to write this off. I start to think I am a great big dummy for saving money vs shipping insured

August 3 Still crickets, no further updates. Getting convinced it is lost, start checking craigslist to see if it pops up there

August 4 An update! customs clearance

August 4 Package is now in Ontario

August 7 Package processed in Ontario

August 12 Package is back in Vancouver, and is processed

Still not out for delivery, but back on the right side of Canada. The drama continues...

update from this morning. Hopefully it arrives today. 6 weeks, thereabouts, from US to Canada, so keep up the faith if you are still waiting
