Convince Me it’s OK to Wear and Enjoy My Watch as a “Daily”

You can send it back to Omega after you beat the crap out of it and they can make it look like now. Just wear it.

There is no rationale for not wearing it daily, that's what it's made for. Why buy a watch and NOT wear it? Makes no sense.

That's what I was wondering. Has the OP even replied once? By now they must have been convinced. Or maybe not.

I've enjoyed this thread very much and I'll say this: only the OP can make the ultimate decision. I surmise that it may take him some time to commit to it, but that he'll end up wearing it daily. At least, I like to think he would!

My daily is a Fprtis Flieger Professional Chronograph that was my first "real" watch purchase back in 2014. It seemed crazy expensive to me at the time at right around $1400 USD, and I bought off the grey market (I know, I was a newbie). But it has served me incredibly and I've built so many memories with it that, even though it's not the most flashy or expensive in my collection, still holds the top spot in terms of sentimental value.

The general consensus here is correct: these machines are made to be worn and enjoyed. Go make some memories with the thing. And when your arthritis kicks in so bad you can't put it on anymore, send it for service and gift it to your son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, and let them create a lifetime of memories with it. They'll always treasure that it came from you and likely spend quiet moments out of the blue just wondering about the adventures YOU had wearing it.

Cheers!

This could have been a clever ploy to post once and then sit back and laugh at the maroons.

Ok. I’ve thought of a way to convince you, but I’ll need your written, signed consent.

You must wear your watch every day and post a picture of yourself wearing the watch each day with the day’s newspaper in the photo as proof.

If you fail to do so, you must send the watch to me.

I bought off the grey market...
Nothing wrong with that assuming you go in with your eyes open.

Yeah, grey market is fine. I considered it but could get my new Seamaster for considerably leas at the AD nearby. Like said above, as long as you know and accept the "risks" and limitations, go for it.

It's sarcasm although anecdotally (or allegedly) the hot water used in shower may prove detrimental.

Yes. O-ring seals that are fine for water resistance at pressure may not keep out soap. Which is not something you need to worry about when diving.

Watch part suppliers call the material their o-rings are made of rubber or special rubber, I guess that is Nitril. Nitril are a cheap and very good material that can handle most chemicals in our daily life. If I remember correctly we never used nitril with steam, sulfuric acid and hydrogen cloride acid.

So if your showers are below the boiling point of water and the soap you are using dont make your skin fall of or dissolve the stainless steel of your watch, Ill guess the o-rings are ok, and you may safely shower with your dive watch on your wrist.

If you are still in doubt you need to visit your watch maker more often for new gaskets and a pressure test, or maybe leave the watch in your safe deposit box.

Just follow the WRUW thread every day, that should inspire you to wear it, at least in rotation.

Been wearing my Speedmaster continuously, by that I mean only taking it off to shower and wind, i.e. 24 hours per day, for 3 years. It literally never leaves my wrists apart from about 10 minutes a day to go in the shower.

Wear your watches every day. Why buy them if you don't wear them?
