I think dial is OK on this one.

It says "Swiss" in really tiny letters under "6" marker and has straight legs on the "M" in Chronometre.

That's the key on these.

I thought the dirty smudge on the dial would have been a genius addition at add authenticity or it is a nice example..........
Thanks for the Swiss tip.
Is £3k a reasonable price, I've not seen one of these for sale.

Seems high to me ($4,500), but it is solid 18K. A good watchmaker may be able to get rid of that smudge.

Wondering if anyone has had experience with this type of dial. What are the chances it can be cleaned. Could it be mold. Would not be worth the risk if it cant be restored. Even if the price was much lower I would prefer to wait to get a better example. Any experience?

Yes this particular type of dial can be cleaned depending the areas affected. It requires care and the use of stereo magnification, Such as a microscope or at least an optivisor. This dial would be spot cleaned using a mild window cleaner on a extra small makeup applicator. Great care must be taken to avoid touching any of the printed areas or applying too wet. These are the only areas I would do. As soon as these areas are cleaned work should stop, you don't want to over clean.

Please understand, I consider this dial to be pretty good to begin with and would want to have it in hand before deciding to clean.

Here is a Dial that necessitated cleaning and the pros outweighed the cons.

Cleaning dials creates great anxiety. It is not something one wishes to do any more the necessary. 😒

I know; the thought of it has my stomach doing flips. I assumed you were a much stronger person that I am.

Everybody crumbles when a dial goes south. 🙁

I have a similar one I'm wearing today (and to the GTG tonight). From 1958 originally delivered to China. Mine is gold capped, so not as valuable as the one you linked. Still, it's one of my favorites.

Is that a shadow or another mark on the dial hidden by the hour hand?
Any more pics with the hands in a different place?

From an oblique view, can still see the marks below the 'certified'. Under the hour hand looks like a shadow. However there is a section that is darker than the shadow, will ask seller for more pics......made an offer but he is not moving on the price.
I have a rule about buying anything...never pay the asking price.

Seller is not really motivated to sell then.

That watch has been on eBay for a long time. Several months at least.
