Constellation dial question

A complete ‘Noob' question but, never having followed Constellations, but having read (although not fully understood the 'MOY' test) I’m curious about why some C case Constellations have 'Omega' at the top of the dial and ‘Constellation' lower down and some have it the other way round.

I’m sure it’s a simple answer but I’d appreciate it.

I’ve always believed the omega at the bottom is the later / late seventies version.

Indeed, I believe it's a function of when the watch was made, but I think it's the opposite of what Dries says above - the ones with Constellation at the top started in the late 60s.

If you haven't been there already, one of the best places to read about Constellations (and what gave me my start collecting) is Desmond's blog at http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/.

Yes - I believe it’s calibre related, and date is therefore not hard and fast. My C-case from 1970 has cal 564 and therefore the older text layout in your second example.

I love my C-case, but maybe too much literature for you, @Spruce…?

The OMEGA seems to have moved down the dial at about the time the Star was dropped. A strange thing to do, maybe they thought the Star was outdated 😕

Today I went and tried a 168.027 Constellation to see what it was like in 'real life'.

Notwithstanding @wilderbeast's teasing, I didn’t find the ‘literature' too much - it wasn’t in the least bit obtrusive but, what did surprise me was the size of the case which, to my eye, looked to be about 34.5. Is the 168.017 the same size?

The C cases always look bigger in the photos. So, I may still think about getting one - but NOT at Burlington Arcade prices 😲

Come now, @Spruce - you know better than to pay Burlington Arcade prices! I do prefer the slightly cleaner look of 168.017, which I have. It is indeed about 35mm and wears really well on the wrist - surprisingly modern in vibe, actually:

(my wrist is a plum-average 7.25”)

I've never seen a desired 1000+ calibre model sold either, they all seem to sell for baseline prices
Really? This one consistently bring high prices:

Maybe not as much as a cal. 56X model, but pretty close.

Take care,

You're right, I meant the C-Case's

I don't pay too much attention but they are usually 1X to 1.25X in their variation in my mind (the 1000 calibres), while for earlier C-Case's, it's 1X to 2.5X with an average at 1.6X - sometimes 2+ people want the same watch too much to create such a spike
