I am not sure if that crown is a service crown or original but I am sure that the length is correct.

My 18k says hello.

I’m sure this conversation has been had before at some point - but are you suggesting that gold cased 168.010s were supplied with different ( longer and round-ended) crowns to gold capped or SS 168.010s?
the expressed crown on your gold Connie is very different from the ‘hidden’ ( but always slightly protruding) flat-ended crown on your SS Connie.
- or that both are correct?

Nice watch

you may enjoy this video from omega-enthusiast

Interesting video - and some lovely watches- but he does have a couple of things wrong.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 168.018 with a pie pan dial or domed dial, only the distinct flat dial.
The 168.004 overlapped with the 168.010 into 67
The 168.010 started with a cal 561
The 168.004 does, rarely, come with a cal 564
The 168.004 has 2 bezel styles.

however, I do agree with him about the crowns ( but there are two replacement crown styles, one flat-ended and one round-ended)

Here it is.

An old crown for sure but did the crown start life on the 168.010?
I seem to recall something somewhere (Desmond’s blog?) about a domed semi-recessed crown - on a 168.004?

I suppose we will never know for sure unless someone has an old advert or this crown on an unserviced watch bought from new.

My 004's are original, I believe, and they have recessed crowns on both of them.
Certainly, 010 crown is a bit protruded compared to 004.

Above are my 004's with close up on crown.

I need to see old adverts before I can believe the 168.010 came with something different then a hidden crown. Why would you design a case for a hidden crown to install a semi recessed crown? It's just not logical.

On a side note, all of my 168.010's came with a hidden crown.

I knew I’d seen a similar crown somewhere.

The case is heavily polished so I think it’s safe to presume the watch is not a virgin example - but this may have been an acceptable replacement crown at some point.

Because the clients complained that the completely hidden was so hard to use

I did end up asking Desmond's view on this. His response (hope he doesn't mind quoting, but I think it's for the greater good of solving mysteries):

It could well be the correct crown if it is solid 14k. Even with 14 k one would expect quite a bit of wear on the crown leading to it being less sharp and more rounded. What I’m saying is that it’s difficult to be certain because of the wear to the crown.

I will share more pictures when I receive the watch at the end of this week. Thank you OF for being so responsive!

I too think it’s 100% period.
A replacement but period.

Speaking about Desmond, I tried reaching at him on PM here w/o success, he has not been around OF for sometime now. Has anyone heard from him? 🍿
