Consolidated my collection down to two watches

I feel you! My personal limit would be 7 watches. That way, every piece has the chance to at least be worn once a week.

@cjoedaniel If I were you I would observe the wrist time each watch gets to have over a long enough period of time (maybe 2 months?). Make an Excel sheet where you enter what watch has been worn what day. Over time you will probably become more aware over what pieces you tend to pick vs. which ones get left behind.
Scientific research indicates that a significant portion of “collectors” are, in fact, hoarders. Do you think your Excel idea might be able to help these pathetic wretched God forsaken souls? I’m asking for a friend.

Original poster here. I switched things up a bit. I wound up liking the Planet Ocean a little more and traded rhe Seamaster 300M for this Aqua Terra. Here is where I am at for the moment. I think this gives me a little more variety.
I think this is a great move. The PO and SMPc too similar in look and the AT is a great replacement.

In my case I think 6 or 7 watches is ideal. I see it divided in 2; the top watches(in terms of price and prestige) which I would like to be Rolex and Omega and 2nd section that can be Tags, Bvlgari Oris etc.

As I said in another post I like to cover main bracelet materials that mostly relates to ocassions; stainless steel, leather and rubber.

That’s a great pair. Get the rubber strap and a nice leather and you are done near enough.

I’ve been through a similar thing and was down to a smaller number of watches (Apollo 11 speedie and BB58 being the most expensive) but unfortunately the blue BB58 was released and I couldn’t resist.....

Great job consolidating down to two. My long term goal is a 5-watch collection (subject to change repeatedly ):

This would be a great omega collection and with sporty ,casual and dress options.

Beautiful two pieces. I don’t think I can get myself down to two. I’m at 5 and I’m planning on staying there for a while as I’m capped out for at least a year. My original goal was 7 since that’s what my Wolf box holds.

Appreciate it! Of that group, the Doxa is the one I regretted letting go the most.

Yeah, my Doxa stays no matter what. It's a beast, but a beautiful beast. And since the departure of Rick M and the general lunacy of the company now I don't see myself buying another.

I'm making my way down to 5, with caveats. Not sure I could do just 2 anymore -- dig the variety too much, and the memories and stories associated with each. But the fever of the early years has passed.

I’m somewhat in awe and my wife would adore you... but, there’s no way I could whittle down my collection to two watches, no way, no how. Too much time and effort invested over the decades. Each watch has a story to tell, some personal others just business.

Too far down the rabbit hole. I made a nice little collage of some of my utility watches, maybe I’ll make a mobile of the dress watches... crazy huh?

OP -- is that the original strap on the Legends Diver? I really like the look of it. Congrats on your consolidation (and its continuing evolution ;-) )...

I also keep track of my watches in a spreadsheet, including wears and bought/sold info. I think 5-7 is my sweet spot based on my experience so far, but we'll see if that holds true now that the AT is in the collection.

This is it right here, If I had known what I know why when started, this is what I would have chosen and call it a day. Alas, that was not meant to be, I'm now encumbered with so many that it feels a chore to part with....

Thanks everyone. It wasn't easy, but here was my thought process.

-First off, I would consider myself a chronic flipper, with nothing staying in my collection, typically for more than 3-4 months so I have owned hundreds of watches, never really exceeding for than 5-6 watches at a time. I have tried a lot.
-I learned over the years that I like dive watches. I like the robustness, water resistance, the look, and I always reach for them when choosing from my watch box. Business casual at work, so never had the feeling of needing something dressier.
-I started with Seiko and micro brands, moved up in value including tons of Omega (Speedmaster, Aqua Terra, many Seamasters, many Planet Oceans) and Tudor (Black Bays in all colors, Pelagos in both colors, Heritage Chrono in all colors), stopping at the highest end and priciest for me at Rolex, (Sub, Explorer, both colors of the Explorer II, and a Datejust II)
-Came to the conclusion that the two brands that I loved wearing the most, brought me the most pride, and struck a balance for me between prestige, enjoyment, and value were easily Omega and Tudor.
-3 watches total would probably be my ideal number, but after selling everything off, 2 seemed right to get me what I was looking for without dipping into my checking account and just using watch sale funds for the new purchases.
-I was initially going to get one Omega and one Tudor, but the Planet Ocean and the Seamaster 300M were my top two choices, with the Pelagos a close runner up.
-For those that were asking, these 5 watches were my most recent over the past couple of months that made the sacrifice to get to my two.
I like what you have done, whittling down and buying your favorites...I think I may need to heed this advice ;-)

The Longines Legend Diver is a nice watch!
I had one for a while but mine was the date and I just did not like it on this watch, the ND is the winner for sure of the two.
I loved the strap it came on but really had fun with it on NATO straps.
I also had a Legend Diver no-date and agree with you. The no-date version is just so clean looking!!

Nice choice of watches. I'm curious if you added to your collection since then.
I personally can't see myself doing that, even though my bank account says I should. 😀

You're killing it.

Even Marie Kondo stopped pruning and learned to love mess.

Me, I'm reduced to stuffing "project watches" in the sock drawer so my watch box doesn't look too full...

I've only got a watch box that will hold 6 and if my wife sees anything else, she won't be happy!

But this two piece combo is.... very nice.
