Consolidated my collection down to two watches

Thanks everyone. It wasn't easy, but here was my thought process.

-First off, I would consider myself a chronic flipper, with nothing staying in my collection, typically for more than 3-4 months so I have owned hundreds of watches, never really exceeding for than 5-6 watches at a time. I have tried a lot.
-I learned over the years that I like dive watches. I like the robustness, water resistance, the look, and I always reach for them when choosing from my watch box. Business casual at work, so never had the feeling of needing something dressier.
-I started with Seiko and micro brands, moved up in value including tons of Omega (Speedmaster, Aqua Terra, many Seamasters, many Planet Oceans) and Tudor (Black Bays in all colors, Pelagos in both colors, Heritage Chrono in all colors), stopping at the highest end and priciest for me at Rolex, (Sub, Explorer, both colors of the Explorer II, and a Datejust II)
-Came to the conclusion that the two brands that I loved wearing the most, brought me the most pride, and struck a balance for me between prestige, enjoyment, and value were easily Omega and Tudor.
-3 watches total would probably be my ideal number, but after selling everything off, 2 seemed right to get me what I was looking for without dipping into my checking account and just using watch sale funds for the new purchases.
-I was initially going to get one Omega and one Tudor, but the Planet Ocean and the Seamaster 300M were my top two choices, with the Pelagos a close runner up.
-For those that were asking, these 5 watches were my most recent over the past couple of months that made the sacrifice to get to my two.

You have fine taste in watches, my friend. I would have bought that Searambler from you in a heartbeat. Actually, I would have been tempted to scoop up your whole collection!

Appreciate it! Of that group, the Doxa is the one I regretted letting go the most.

I don’t mind flipping just having a hard time getting rid of sentimental watches and gift watches. Unless I don’t count them as part of my collection?

I think that I could get down to four watches:
(1) Speedy Tuesday 1
(2) Speedy Tintin
(3) Current Rolex Explorer 1
(4) Jaeger LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Dress watch
I love the Speedies, but the Rolex is the beater and the JLC is the elegant one.

2 watches is barely enough to be called a collection! So technically you are ok but on an emotional level it's not a collection

I was down to three but this week the bug hit hard again so there's now three more I'm considering. I feel like I'm partly looking out of boredom and also being influenced by the posts here since I'm spending more time online these days. Yes, I'm blaming you guys for my flaws.

4 is my current sweet spot. I was down to 3, but 4 gives me a regular 3 watch rotation, and a vintage Seamaster for special occasions.

Original poster here. I switched things up a bit. I wound up liking the Planet Ocean a little more and traded rhe Seamaster 300M for this Aqua Terra. Here is where I am at for the moment. I think this gives me a little more variety.

I agree with you. These are two fantastic choices.

I also respect your discipline, though I don't understand it, and could never fully apply it myself.

Very respectful, but I still think you need a dress watch, preferably gold and vintage.

I really like the subtle "touch of orange" color to both watches.

You have really good taste and the white vs black dial gives you a lot of variety for just owning two watches.

I can't imagine getting down to just two watches.

If I really tried my best, I think I could do maybe 6 or 7 watches as a target for having a limited number of them.

That's a great combo! One tool watch, and one casual watch that will dress up fine, unless you run with a crowd that has strong sartorial opinions.

That’s a really great pairing and far more flexible than your original two imho.

For me it’s got to be my Speedmaster Professional (more than dressy enough for me especially on leather) and one other. Problem is figuring out what that second one is! Probably a diver from Omega but not current generation as I can’t support the heft (very slim wrists). Maybe a 2201.50, or a 2220.80. Or the James Bond AT would work too, screw down crown and 150m water resistance is more than enough for me. Choices choices...

Or PO 39.5mm if you have slim wrists 😀

Thanks guys! The AT is about as dressy as I ever need these days. I used to wear suits all the time but have probably only suited up a couple of times in the past 5 years. have owned many dress watches over the years but they just don't get worn in the business casual environment I work in, here in Colorado.

I find the current generation PO 39.5mm disproportionately thick for the case size, it’s not to my personal taste. I also love the old school numbers on the original versions with the open 6 and 9.

The AT is a great watch if one wants to go with a one or two watch collection.

I could have easily done a one watch collection (but then is it a collection??) with the AT, but I bought a Speedmaster Pro so now I need something more casual and rugged with higher water resistance.

Ok very nice but now you need a nice dress watch!😉

And a chrono. No serious watch aficionado lacks a Speedy, after all...

Maybe a GMT/travel watch,..

Something that goes under the radar when travelling...

A Flieger is an essential add...

You don't own a Rolex or AP?

Something in gold or precious metal?

A vintage piece connects your PO and SMP to the long and storied history of watchmaking,..

How about a really novel complication that can fascinate and instruct?

And a G-Shock, Citizen or Seiko, because it isn't only the Swiss who make watches...

And now, many watches later, you've recognized the error of your ways, and you're back in the club!

Great job consolidating down to two. My long term goal is a 5-watch collection (subject to change repeatedly ):
