Considering a vintage Omega Seamaster 600 ref. 135.011

Hi everyone,

I’m from Spain and have been getting more interested in vintage Omega watches lately. I’m still learning, so I’d really appreciate the experience and knowledge of the members here.

I’m considering buying an Omega Seamaster 600, reference 135.011, and I’d like to hear your opinions before making a decision.

The seller says he bought it around ten years ago from the son of the original owner. According to him, the dial and hands are original and have never been restored, and the case has never been polished. He also says the watch runs reliably, but it has not been serviced during the ten years he has owned it. He cannot confirm whether the crystal and crown are original.

From the pictures, the dial looks very good to me, and the caseback still has its Seahorse emblem, along with a personal engraving.

I’m particularly interested in your thoughts on:

Does the watch look correct and original for this reference?
Does the case appear genuinely unpolished, and how would you assess its overall condition?
Would you be concerned about buying it without a recent service, even if it seems to be running well?
What would you consider a reasonable price for this particular example?

I’m not looking for a perfect investment piece; I’d like a nice vintage Omega to wear occasionally and enjoy for years to come.

Thanks in advance for your help. I’m looking forward to learning from your experience!

As a buyer I'd always want well-lit photographs which are in focus: all bar the penultimate and ante-penultimate photos fail and my worry is what the seller is trying gently to hide. Or maybe his eyesight is failing in which case.....
What's your relationship to the seller? This comes a cross as a speculative personal property sale but is he indicating an asking price or is he leaving it to you?

No known service history counts in your favour as it needs to be taken into account. The engraving on the caseback may have a meaning for the seller but to you it's a nuisance.

Have you searched EBay SOLD and COMPLETED listings for the same model? You'll get good intel on likely prices as well as a chance to make comparisons on condition.

It looks ok to me, as far as I can tell from the photos, which are pretty bad. Some blemishes on the dial, movement is a bit dirty. Hard to judge the case from the poor photos but I'm not seeing anything horrible. Kind of an average example, IMO.

Thank you very much for the advice. You are absolutely right to be cautious.

The general photos in the listing are indeed poor. I actually had to message the seller privately (who is an older collector) to ask for extra close-ups. He sent me two sharp, high-quality photos—specifically the penultimate and ante-penultimate ones showing the dial and the crown.

However, you are completely right about the rest of the watch. Since all the other photos from the original listing are blurry, I am going to follow your advice and ask him for higher-quality, sharp close-ups of the movement, the caseback, and the lugs to make sure nothing is hidden before making a decision.

I have also been checking completed listings on eBay and other platforms to compare general market values. I've seen that depending on the overall condition, this model usually moves between €600 and €900, or sometimes a bit more for clean examples. He is offering it to me for €780. I truly appreciate your sharp eye and your warnings.

I’d say it’s a decent example dial quite good. It’s a nice manual wind watch with reliable movement which looks clean. Case appears unpolished.
I would pay around 500-600 USD for this

Thank you for taking a look! You are totally right, the listing photos make it very hard to judge properly. The movement definitely looks like it needs a good cleaning.

Because the images are so poor, I have just messaged the seller to ask for high-quality, sharp close-ups of the movement, the caseback, and the lugs. I want to make sure there are no hidden surprises.

I really appreciate your honest opinion.

It’s all correct, dial original, crown etc. the case looks quite good, possibly unpolished but hard to be certain.

The dial could be very good or average - it’s hard to say from those photos.

Thank you for the positive breakdown. It's great to hear that the case looks unpolished and the dial seems decent despite the poor lighting.

Regarding the price, since I am based in Europe, the market here runs much higher for vintage Omegas. Even examples in very poor condition frequently go for €400 to €500 ($450 to $560 USD) over here. On top of that, buying from the US isn't really an option for me because importing a watch to Spain easily adds a 21% VAT plus customs duties.

The seller's current offer is €780 (about $876 USD) . However, I might try to counter and see if he can drop it a bit closer to €700 (around $786 USD).

Thanks you again.

Thank you for the verification. It's a huge relief to know the dial and crown are correct.

I have already asked the seller for extra sharp close-ups of the movement, caseback, and lugs under better light, along with the results of a 24-hour timekeeping test he is running right now.

Thanks again for your help.

You are totally right about the service cost.

Out of curiosity, are you based in the UK? What are the typical price ranges for this model over there? Here in mainland Europe, on well-known platforms, listings usually run quite high: around €400–€600 for poor/parts examples, and easily €600–€800 for average ones.

They’re asking prices on places like c24 I assume. They are not typical sold prices between private sellers/buyers.

£350-400 gets you a nice example that needs a service.

Thanks a lot. That's right. Prices on C24 definitely carry a heavy markup due to fees and dealer margins.

Hi.
The seller just sent me some additional photos with better quality—still not amazing, but good enough to get a clearer view of the caseback, the engravings, and the movement.

Nothings changed.

It could be a nice one but it’s impossible to be certain.

Even if it is nice, the price is high.

Thank you very much. I think I will keep looking for another piece. Best regards
