Without knowledge and experience you are never going to find the perfect Omega within your budget. There isn't really a reference around where a perfect or very good specimen would be trading at £300. If you were to find a perfect example of some reference within your budget by the time you have done your research somebody else with the knowledge and experience will have probably snagged it. When bargains do pop up from time to time they are snapped up fast!!

My advice: Or up your budget, or lower your expectations.

Suppose your right there! I have no problem in upping the budget, course, not by much, but if one came along then yes for sure. Going down the list of possibilities, do you think with some patience and perseverance I could pick up a nice example Longines? Or is my best option Tissot / Cyma Roamer etc... 😀 lower branded, but a higher example in that said brand ie Tissot / Bulova

Buy what speaks to you......just remember next time to ask before you use somebody else's picture as an avatar 😉

Nice Longines can be found in your budget, for instance with a 12,68 cal. By the way, Cyma is not a lower brand, it is just a less known brand and above all a brand that does no longer exist.

Just seeing this thread. Agree with much of what is said already. I started in vintage about 2 years ago when I realized that new, simple, manual wind watches without date that I initially loved (and still do) are rare today, so needed to go vintage. New Grand Seiko sbgw031 was my starting point, and then JLC Reverso in manual. Both new, both expensive. Went vintage after that and all my watches (about 30 currently, but my wife only knows about 10 or so, three of which I gave to her) plus service cost less than those first two watches! Longines, Cyma, and Tissot good choices. I know most about Longines, and 30L and 12.68z are fine movements but everybody else knows this and prices reflect this for good examples. Lots of other fine movements too (23z my favorite, as this was really a movement for the American market and lots of watches and parts available here) if this important to you. Parts or whole replacement movements readily available. Cyma nice movements and watches and my watchmaker has complimented my three examples. Just began exploring Tissot and like 516 series (and prices!). Some nice vintage Lucien Piccard and Cortebert out there too. Vintage Omega too expensive for my tastes and too many competitors for good examples, and I would have to learn about fakes, etc before would buy (or rely on this forum!). New JDM Seikos with the better mechanical movements really hard to beat for price. If really strapped for cash, save up and buy one watch you really want, so you don't get hooked and end up with more watches than sense, like many of us here 😁.

At 19 you are in complete command!

Tell your folks you need a couple hundred for books (or court costs if you aren't a student) and with 4-500 quid (no pound/sterling symbol on my keyboard) watch the "For Sale Private" section here.
@UncleBuck I know you're half joking but remember there is no humor font on the web!
are you really telling a young man who's learning to manage a budget to lie to family to take (steal) their money and gamble on watches with it?
Shame on you!
@danielhurst, don't listen, a big part of this hobby if you want a 'small collection" is to learn how to enjoy yourself within a budget that's reasonable for you!
And don't forget that for many people who are not watch enthusiasts, 200£/$/€ is a big chunk of cash and not "cheap".

Thank you @Syrte. Don't worry I didn't listen hah but I thought at the time it wasn't on to say that, but I was new who knows ha!

Anyway, I've upped my budget, only a little more just so I can get a watch that is both in good condition, with a great movement that looks the part as well...withoit any redials!

Been looking at a 1965 Longine 30l, posted it on here first and it's been getting some good feedback which is positive. Slowly learning how to spot fakes but most commonly those redials that are mostly found on eBay (hence why I'm not purchasing from there) but the seller who's watch it is, is a reputable seller.

Again thanks for your post, I didn't want to say anything when I first saw the original. I would never do that, it's my hobby and my fault if I mess up, why bring anyone else into let alone my parents hah! 😀 😉 😀

Good for you👍
Beware as redials are everywhere, not just on Ebay.
Even some supposedly reputable dealers have started to offer them without proper disclosure.

Will do. This is the piece in question I was talking about. I've been told by the seller it's the original dial, and according to the forum it's in good shape for 1965.

Just need to make sure if there's anything else out there first, but like you said this will be the start of a "lower end" not "cheap" watch collection haha 😉
