How do you know that there is a bigger market? Panerai watches range from 40 mm to 47.5 mm and seem to being doing just fine, because there is still a sizeable amount of consumers that like big watches.
Right, and like I said it’s not that there isn’t a market for big watches. I certainly don’t wish for thick watches to disappear because I know other people love them. I would just love to see a GMT or a variant of the PO that is thinner and I think many others would too. To each their own though. Here’s to hoping that the late summer releases will appeal more to the side of the house that was underwhelmed by these releases, because if they release a big watch at the start of the year and then a GMT or thinner PO later on in the year then everyone wins. Same team, just different perspectives I suppose.

Anyone ever think Omega is reluctant to make the PO smaller because its just going to eat into their own sales of the SMP or SM300?
The PO was started as a big watch and its staying that way. First gen was 45.5x17mm and 42x14.5mm, both bigger than the SMP of the same era if I remember correctly.

Shrinking the UD by reducing the WR makes it less special technologically IMO, especially if it just gets reduced to around 3KM which plenty of watches can hit.

A thinner PO on the other hand would be interesting. This UD is basically the same thickness as my 600M deep black PO, less than 1 mm of difference. Maybe with the same tech in a PO, 600M WR can be much thinner.

Lets hope a thinner PO refresh is coming this week too. Omega did say it'd be a week of announcements... Unless I interpreted that incorrectly.

Panerai listened to their customers and produced a Luminor Due in 42 mm v. 47 mm. I agree, I think a thinner PO without a HE valve would look fantastic too.

To your first point, if Omega is thinking that, they might need a reminder that the PO sits in an entirely different price bracket than the 300m. The PO has solid gold indexes, hands, and a better movement. If they can shrink the PO to 13mm, then I'd bet they could probably charge a premium as it might be setting a record for WR in terms of mm/depth. In any case, me and a number of other people would be willing to pay extra for that.

On the second note, I do hope that Omega can incorporate some of the technologies they used with the UD to slim the PO. However, they already avoided the LiquidMetal gasket in the Ti UD for servicing issues, which was responsible for a lot of the slimness on the field model.

I do hope that a thinner PO is on its way, but my enthusiasm and hopes are waning somewhat. Only time will tell...

They make a thicker than normal PO that can go to the bottom of the Mariana Trench and people are asking for a thinner PO 🤦

PO isn’t getting any thinner folks.

They already make something thinner, It’s called a Seamaster.

A GMT PO someone asked for

BOOM

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing we see a updated PO and PO GMT coming this fall. I think the 43.5 mm is perfect. But can see Omega shaving 1 mm to 1.5 mm off the thickness. Coming in between 14.5mm to 15.5mm thick will fit nicely in the middle of the Diver 300 and UD IMO

Apologies if posting in the wrong thread (new to the forum, and equally, may well have missed this particular detail from the announcements) but is there any indication as to when the Ultra Deep will actually be available in stores??

Many thanks!

I've heard/read estimates ranging from "later this month" to April

This is value of sales not number of watches sold.

And also does not address the notion that there is a sizable market for small vs. large watches, unless we are making very broad correlations between overall brand market share and watch size.

I would be interested to see that data though, if it does exist.

And it’s about 11mm thick. Tried one of these on today at the AD…..very balanced and although not the tool watch of the true luminor the DNA is there. They gave people what they asked for and are selling VERY well.

I like my PO just like it is. I don't think it looks big or thick even on my scrawny 6.75" wrist. Everything about it is classic. Ceramic dial and bezel, applied markers and logo, classic stainless bracelet. It looks like a million bucks IMHO.

Many thanks for the replies and apologies for the delay in acknowledging!

Mixed response from UK ADs some (Boutiques) saying April others (WoS) suggesting early summer. Hopefully sooner rather than later…
