Colour of Speedy strap

Hi all, I’ve mostly posted on the vintage thread but I’m getting to the stage of starting to investigate and purchase a speedy in the near future - this is a minor detail but thought it’d be interesting to see what people thought...

I mostly wear brown leather so therefore buy brown leather watch straps (I’m not a huge fan of metal bracelets); now I’m leaning towards a brand new Speedy Pro as opposed to the minefield of vintage ones but not convinced brown matches the black and white of the watch.

Do people have similar conundrums or am I thinking about it too much?! What combinations of Speedy and straps/bracelets do you like? Just out of interest more than anything.

Thanks!

I like my ST1 on the brown leather just fine with the dial contrast. I also recently just put it on a 1171/1 bracelet and like it as well. I most likely will swap for the season changes here in the northeast US.

Speedys and dark brown leather goes well together. Especially on racing strap with vintage look.

If you check, Omega makes a very nice brown leather 20/18mm strap for their really nice deployant clasp, the # on my strap is 98000195 (hopefully that's a part #) I got the strap an clasp for about $295 from a very friendly AD. It looks very nice and is very comfortable (still learning how to post pictures) With a clasp instead of a buckle, the strap lasts much longer. I do also like the Horween straps with the single stitch, but a nice, oil finished brown, tan or saddle strap with stitching also looks very classy on a Speedmaster.

And now you're all just making me jealous 😉

I’m liking the dark brown straps actually, that last one made of an ostrich’s arse looks lovely. I quite like the idea of swapping different straps around based on different seasons/dress/mood. Does anyone do this on a fairly regular basis? I’ve got a few vintage watches that I rotate depending on their strap colour but definitely won’t have more than one Speedy to throw into the mix!

Seasonal change? I could never go that long. I often change the strap on my Speedmaster halfway through the day!

I do not have many straps and bracelets yet 🙁. But, very happy with my current selections 😀

Haven't had the Speedmaster that long , however, I'm in the classic Speedy dilemma, no half links & only 2 micro adjustments. When the weather is cooler the bracelet fits & feels very nice, but uncomfortably tight when it's hot out. So, in summer I found the leather strap/deployant clasp a perfect comfort fit, I also have the Moonwatch Velcro strap and a couple of NATOs for variety. Thought I would like the bracelet full time, still love it but the other options I now have definitely have made it easier to fully enjoy my watch, amazing how a really nice leather strap makes it much dressier.

Hi Hamish,
The one that comes into question is this here
Dead Link/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.de/ulk/itm/310399319536
It will need some loving treatment with brown shoe polish to get the white stichting assimilated 😁

You only got to get an 18mm Omega buckle to make it a perfect combination.

And for me, swapping my straps once or twice a week is mandatory 😎

Awesome, thanks @guwipa 👍 The strap changes seems like a great idea, might employ it more on my current watches.

Brown works with a brand new Speedy then which would possibly save time (and money) hunting down a vintage with patina.

Great to see what people go for and how they interpret the watch with their straps. Cheers.

On an OEM omega alligator strap (98000080).
I like a contrast stitch colour that matches the lume:

These aren't mine, I downloaded these images when looking for a brown leather strap. I think both the cognac colour (lower, racing strap) and a lighter brown (upper) work equally well. In both you can see the stitch colour either matches the lume or the dial.

Preparing for Speedy Tuesday. My favorite leather for a Speedy is a brown racing strap with vintage vibes.

A lovely little bit of patina there @Ville_W to compliment the strap, or visa versa.

Further more to the dilemma I think I’m in a familiar quandary between the Pro and the FOIS. Ultimately I’ll get a few straps to swap around but I think a brown strap on the FOIS works really well, if only it weren’t for that sapphire crystal...
