No chance.

I’ve got to the stage where I buy watches I know I’m unlikely to keep, but if its a model I’ve not owned before, one owner, direct from family, with years of dirt and grime, i can’t help myself. I just want to own it and see for myself whether it's a model I'd like.

I’m almost addicted to opening the present when it arrives, seeing the transformation after a light clean and crystal polish, before wearing it for a few months, putting in the box and then selling a few months down the line to fund some more.

It’s the selling part that gets me. That will change this year.

I chickened out on the inside track for another 321 last night. It was nice but had a small dent in the case but everything else was just stunning. I had the PP F&F all lined up and......I sent a note thanking the seller, apologizing profusely but I just could not do it. I've added a Timex Marlin, A very nice Pie Pan, A Salmon Ardath. All for less than 3K. I just could not bring myself to drop another big chunk on a watch I really don't need. Hmmmm

How do you like the Marlin? I'm in need of a dressier watch and I love the look. And as much as a I would like to add a Nomos I'm not sure I can justify the cost for a dress watch (...yet...).

I love watches but I’ve found I almost equally love the thrill of the hunt.

Between the research, anticipation and getting to continuously experience new watches, I don’t foresee my collection ever being “complete”.

Love the watch ...hate the strap. I'm in search of the right strap for it. The reason the watch is so hard to get is that it is a handsome well finished beast.

Good to hear. I've seen complaints about the movement but this is a Timex we're talking about so I'm not expecting horological perfection. I'll be on the lookout for it, I assume it's not currently in stock anywhere? Also -- 18mm strap width?

I almost hate to mention it but might you not need a vintage dress watch of some kind?
Ja I had the gold DJ in mind for that, at least for now. Hoping that I don’t feel the need to get an out and out dress watch as I try to avoid black tie events due to my famously low tolerance level for dickheads 😗

EVERYONE needs a vintage dress watch. Not "maybe" or "might". The word is "definitely".

due to my famously low tolerance level for dickheads 😗

You need to work on your dickhead immunity now that I'm back. 😲 😁

You're one of us. 😉 I gave up watches as part of my parole, but still get the itch. 😜

Put your finished collection in a locked box, in the attic.
By next weekend, you will feel the urge to expand a new collection.

I know I'm going to go against the grain of many collectors on here, but I've just bought two watches that i've been after for a while and am suddenly feeling like my collection is complete; I've no great desire to own more watches than I own. Should I seek medical help?

You need to stay away from our wives! 😡

I had a chuckle at this thread as I have a self imposed ban on buying any fishing gear until 2020

As I have way too much, and after going into my tackle room ( yes you heard right I have a tackle room 😗 ) a few years ago and had a 🤬 me moment on how much spare gear I have and how many large plastic containers of unused lures that would take 10 years to loose them all . As well as having 20+ lure trays with every colour and size range covered in the boat at one time. ( I even have a tackle box fully set up with hundreds of $$s of gear for a type of fishing I don't even do 🤦 )

I broke it the other day with the excuse I was in another state :whipped:

:whipped:Never ever say your collection is complete....I said it once. And where did it get me? Nowhere...

A collection is an organic thing. It breathes. Some move on. Some are the stalwarts of your collection and so on. In the end, lust will do you in. Financial constraints or gains will change your behaviour and make you move stuff.

If you insist that your collection is in fact complete, run far, far, far away from watch sites. Take up a sport like curling and enjoy your collection.

Cheers

I once had a vague, similar feeling of 'that's me done then' but with my bikes.
Then, a fancy new comer appears, and tastes change, and I gave in, finding myself in the constant N+1 scenario which keeps things ticking over nicely.
I operate same principal with watches, along with the same life rule - always intercept the postman first.

Hi Kmart and LarryS,
I managed to get a Timex Marlin and yes the fit and finish is better than what you expect, and the Seagull movement in mine keeps great time.
I put the original strap in the box and put a
Hadley-Roma Men's MSM700LA-180 18-mm Long Black Genuine Lizard Leather Watch Strap
On and it’s great quality and matches the watch.

To the OP, I feel like I’m close to reaching Collection Nirvana with the 50th Apollo 11 coming up next year should close it out after 23 years of buying and selling.

I’m a noob, note the post count and I show up in the “introductions” thread. I find this amusing and distressing all at the same time. I play trombone as an “enthusiast” at best, yet I own 5 different types of ‘bones. Wife = “you can only play one at a time”. Now that I’ve “found” watches, I see similar commentary in my future.....
