Used to see that a lot with fancy rugs and carpets -- eBay took their percentage off the lartificially ow asking and then the sellers made their cash on the shipping. Recently, of course, we're seeing it on protective masks, etc., where the shipping is a 3-5x multiple of the price.

Could ask to collect? But I think you’re correct, whilst not an outright scam it does stink a bit.

Yep. They take their % off the total payment now, I suspect in response to what they saw as abuse of the system. I don't know if Amazon marketplace does.

It's been a while since I sold something on the 'bay, but IIRC it was 10% of the total.

eBay started charging commission on the total sale inclusive of shipping at least 5 years ago.

I don’t think the (US) buyer pays sales tax on the shipping cost, maybe that’s the game? Ive seen a few of these of late as well.

Am i the only one who finds it impossible to even put a fair shipping price on eBay without getting an error message?

I sold 4 or 5 things on eBay, got a shipping quotation from my local post office and was always rejected my listing due to the shipping cost being too high, i had to lower it to a fraction of what it actually cost me, found it frustrating, tried to look for ways to work around eBay screening filters found it even more frustrating and in the end decided to sell through other marketplaces..

Please forgive my skepticism that we've identified Bosnia's premier antiquities collector.

Well that will stop people from returning the item where shipping isn’t refunded for sure.

eBay shipping policy stink. From Scandinavia, I can't bid on US watches sent via the Global Shipping Program. I have to persuade the seller to use USPS and edit the listing correspondingly.

Send them a message, tell them you live nearby and will do local pickup.
