I am sure her legs were worth a lot more ( insurance) than theirs lol.
Rumour had it that Catherine's Bachs legs were insured for a million dollars and I am sure worth every inch of them!
I dunno man, a knee replacement good enough to operate the clutch pedal in an old Vette can’t be cheap

Not quite a car but hopefully will eventually get to be on my newest vintage car.

I bought because the new car doesn't have one and it's also damn near identical to the one on my other vintage car though possibly a bit older I am guessing late 1850's till maybe 1920's the age of my car though I am far from an expert on travel case ages.

Bit of panel beating required to get it like new again on the lid plus a paint strip and respray which I am sure will remove any vintage patina value but hey the car it's going onto is brand new (1929) and in concourse condition.

The lock on this case is way cool and the way the lid latches in the open position is very cool too.

Our US car nerds (sorry, auto fans) would call this a trunk.
Quite correct, and I don't know why we call the equivalent a "boot".

I think they are also known as Steamer Trunks ( as in maritime travel) and if I do a little research I am sure they have a bunch of other names too.
Travel Trunk is certainly in my vocab too.

It goes back the the days of horse drawn coaches the coachmen would store their boots in a compartment at the back of the coach

Love that TR!
Had a Spitfire but always wanted a 3 or 3A.
TR250 was a beast but I loved the vintage look of the 2s and 3s.

I had two Spitfires! They are fun little cars, but after owning a Miata I can't see the need for another.

My 64 with the little engine literally spent more time broke than fixed. Of course, I was taking cloverleafs at 60+mph and winding every gear to max rpm.
Independent rear suspension little bastard went through tires every 6 mos.

Helped get me a date with my honey, though, she thought it was cool (still does 52 yrs. later )!

In all fairness the Triumph Spitfire was from the early sixties and the Mazda MX5 (what we in the rest of the world know the car as) didn't come along till the late eighties so with @ 40 yrs difference in technology the MX5 Should be better than the Spit, the real question is............is it 40 yrs better?
I suspect it probably is, in a technical sense, but is it as much fun? That is much harder to measure as it comes down to the individuals idea of fun.

More fun than what I (we) had would be illegal!

Gosh, what trouble would I have gotten into if I didn't spend every last dollar on that little beauty?

Everything was a challenge, even wiring my 8 track tape player because the bugger was positive ground.

Mazda MX5
Mazda was /is a chic ride..... you had to be a macho man to drive a TR because you had to retrieve parts off the highway!

The MX5 is pretty crazy for what it is, I don't like Japanese cars in general, but that little thing is one of the exceptions. It might be partly because they seem to be among the best driven cars I've seen on average, but I've never seen anything embarrass as many more powerful modern cars on track than the MX5, not just the usual Holdens and Fords (the worst driven cars) but even Porsches and BMWs.

I get that its a very light momentum car with a really good front end, but the way those things make up ground through corners just baffles me, and the owners always look like they're having an incredible time. It makes me really tempted to grab a salvage title NB or something just as a toy for QR & Lakeside.

Or for less money and more fun and character, do what I did and go for a MGF
Shit loads of fun, and plenty of mid engined goodness!

I haven't seen one of those in so long, I did always like them but there must be 20 MGBs around for every F here in QLD at this point, there was a sort of purple chromaflair TF with an engine swap of some kind that used to live locally but that guy now has a similarly engine swapped Cerbera. Very cool little thing indeed.

Wow, I'm shocked that my comment has generated such conversation.

I owned two Spitfires, a 79 1500 that I drove all over Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas for a number of years. It was great fun but I spent a lot of time fixing it, when it rained the top kept some but not all the water out, and you couldn't carry on a conversation with your passenger if you drove over 50.

My second one was a 66 MkII. That was a better built car albeit slower. Mine never had a top frame so only drove in nice weather. It was a bit quieter on the road and a bit more reliable. I chock that last point up to its dual SUs instead of the rotten Stromberg my 1500 had.

Now my MX5. It's older now than my 1500 was when I drove it daily. It's faster, quieter, much more reliable, in fact the only work I've done has been regular maintence in the 100,000 and some miles I've driven it. It is my daily driver, and I put around 3,000 miles a month on it. In the summers I take it on fairly lengthy road trips for a week or so.

When it comes to handling its every bit as good of a car as either of my Spitfires. It has enough torque to agressivly (for an 1800cc engine) accelerate out of tight turns. The only way the Spitfire trumps it is in turning radius, it takes probably four more feet to complete a U turn.

The first time I drove it in the rain I was shocked when I didn't get wet. Even the electrics on it all function properly, down to the cruise control. And the headlights don't go out in the rain.

I was never a fan of Japanese cars growing up and I only wound up in the MX5 because of how cheap it was compared to MGs and TRs. I'm happy I wound up with it, though. It's proven itself to be one of th best cars I've owned and I plan on driving it until I can no longer drive.

The MX5s are a good little car, no doubt about it But I find the MGF just has more character.
Sure they had issues, but these have all been figured out by now, and we have work arounds to make the cars reliable, actually mine has been trouble free other than normal consumable items, and the sort of stuff that happens to all cars.
I haven't really had to do much except replace a fuel pump that had an annoyingly intermittent fault.
I've had more trouble with my Falcon Ute

Sadly, we never got the MGF over here, so I've not had the chance to ever mess with one.
