After about 5 years, the 308 is “done”

My father in law bought this as a project and it ended up being much more of a project than anticipated.
Originally white, it was repainted silver at some point so he decided to repaint it white, although he liked the silver.
But motor, trans, interior, exterior…there is not much that has been untouched at this point.
Now that’s dedication! Amazing!

What an amazing restoration and spec, love the original white and how it contrasts with the interior and vents, that would be a hell of a car to cruise around Miami in wearing a white leisure suit and aviators

And a plastic piece of shit hardtop is gonna provide real rollover protection........yeah right!

No one said the hardtops we are seeking would be intended to provide rollover protection.

I think it was more of a "there is no turning back now" mentality - but dedication is a nice way to put it lol.

He bought a pack of stick-on mustaches he keeps in the door pocket lol.

For all the F1 fans, true moto sport.

Well that's an hour of my life I'll never get back!

But worth every minute 🤣!

Feel sorry for the duck though 😥.

Friends,
recently I saw on the Mille Miglia in Italy this little BMW 600 from the end of the 1950s.

After WWII BMW had only a bigger luxury car the model 501/502 called 'Barock-Engel' with 6 and 8-cyl. engines and their sporty derivates 503 and 507, which could not adress upcoming mobility needs of new customers.
So they developped a few models with their motobike motor 250 ccm for the twoseater Isetta (1955) and 600ccm two cylinder boxer for the model 600 (1957), both had the front door really on the front, and later came model 700 (1959). This new beginning helped BMW to survive until they launched the 4-cyl. models 1600 and 2000.
And when I was a student in the 60s, a friend owned this BMW 600. See the photo of 1966 with me on the left at a bridge over the river Rhein. (We had a hard night at a party in Cologne.)
Gruss Konrad

And then?
Another friend owned the BMW 700 Coupé with the 700ccm boxer motor.
See me on the right on a trip to Brusseles in the mid 60s.
Yes, we were nice guys, well dressed by wearing ties and leather shoes...

Ok ok, so I have to show the BMW Isetta 250, here with the owner, my mechanic, who serviced my cars over decades...
