Hallo friends,
I dare to show my personal history in cars.
It started with a
- Lloyd Alexander as a student, 2 zyl. 29HP (here shown after a crash), then a
- DKW Junior 700 ccm two stroke (high tuned) (that is at least the prepredecessor of the Audi A1), then a
- VW for me, a few Renault R4 for my whife, funny little cars of that times.
Then
- two Alfa Romeos a Giulia and a Bertone for fun and then a
- few BMWs 732 for business.
Since then I only drive VW Golf, each in the then highest power version and believe me 4 (four) were stolen in front of my house! Now its since 16 years a
- Golf R32, 6 cyl., its not build any more due to climate regulations. The actual model 8 R with 300 HP is no option, only 2l 4-zyl. and a few turbos... 2l is for milk and juice...
I still like to drive to my special watchmaker in Wilhelmshaven, its an almost empty Autobahn, so easy 250 km/h going, remember, no general speed limit on German Autobahn yet. There was just a big discussion, wether it has to be fined to drive more than 400km/h, what a Bugatti driver did and shared in in the net. But it is legal, no fine, on early Sunday morning no others to endanger!
You see, my car history is very European, small cars, no 8 cyl. big blocks, and no breathtaking roadsters in my own history.
But in my youth I stayed many weekends at F1 races at Nürburgring, Hockenheim, Spa, Zandfort aso.
In the last years I visited the Mille Miglia in Lombardia, una festa, una bella compania!
Greetings Konrad

For me a loved history.

I had an Alfa Romeo GTV 105 series just like that one in the 5th pic, in Possipillo blue, amongst assorted other Alfas, including a white Giulia Super like the one in the 4th pic

Cracking Alfas. I had a 156 many years ago, so modern Alfa in comparison. Loved that car, still had the best seats of any car I've had before or since. Still get to qualify as a true petrolhead though - I've paid my Alfa tax! 😜

It’s a bit sad that there are no good small Alfas anymore except the 4C, just SUVs and big sedans, no simple convertible, feels very odd for the brand

Alfa? Did I hear Alfa?

Here is mine.

V8 engine, but VSB (Very Small Block 😁)

Owned since about 20 years, running sweet and reliable. Serviced by myself. They need to be driven, otherwise they develop multible problems, in particular with the fuel injection.

A Montreal?! Bernard that's beautiful!

Yes, a Montreal. Compared with modern medium sized cars, it is quite small. And has the sweetest gearbox (ZF 5-speed, dogleg first, needs to be filled with motor oil, not gearbox oil) I have ever experienced, shift in a small fraction of a second. And the engine noise 🥰

To add photos of the Mille Miglia in 2021:
- a bunch of Bugattis on the streets of Salo and
- how it ended for a Farrari.
- a Mercedes Benz 300SL, as these few models won the Carrera Panamericana 1954 in Mexico.
- The Carrera in 1953 was won by a Porsche.
- The Mille Miglia in 1955 was won by a Mercedes 300SLR roadster.
- Mille Miglia 1940: winner on BMW 328
After some serious crashes these races on public roads were ended.

Went to Bob’s weekly Friday cruise in this evening. Saw some rad cars but the one that took the ticket for me was the modded 356 that was waiting to turn left while I was on my way out.

The 4C is a great car but more mini-supercar than delightful soft top cruiser.
I had the very good fortune to test drive one on the open roads when they came out in the UK, accompanied by a race driver instructor
Dressed appropriately of course....
