Choosing Between Seamaster Aqua Terra 38mm vs Seamaster 300m

I’ve always liked watches and now it’s been sometime I am working and saving up for my first ever automatic watch. Omega was one of my favorite brands and I narrowed down my choices to 2 options so far but I can’t decide and I need help. So, options are :

The new Aqua Terra Terracotta (red) 2022 release vs Seamaster 300m white dial, black bezel.

I would also love to buy 007 limited edition (black seamaster 300m) but I don’t think it is possible to find brand new on a retail price. Please feel free to give opinions or if you have any other options to suggest, preferably within Omega, I would be happy to read.

I would get the Seamaster 300m, but primarily because I think that red-dial Aqua Terra will look dated in a few years while the Seamaster will still be a classic design. Now if you were considering a black, blue, or white-dial AT, I might have a different opinion, because the AT is more versatile. It really comes down to your lifestyle and whether you tend to dress more casual/sporty (where the Seamaster will look great), or casual/business (where the AT would go better).

My vote goes to AT, I don't like white dials no matter how well they are executed.

Two very different watches. I think that the current version of the SMPc is too large and pretty much shouts sports watch which limits its utility. Would you really want to wear it with a suit, for example? The prior 41mm version with the glossy black or blue no waves dial is a really nice watch and far more versatile. The AT is a great size, very stylish and a good all rounder, but I would avoid the red dial and get another more traditional color that will age well.

I wear my SMP with a suit, how’s that any different to all the suit wearing Sub owners? I don’t but into the dress watch mantra, you can wear any watch with any outfit.

I just think that a 42mm diver is pushing it for a dress watch. I love my SMPc, but my go to for a suit is my JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon at 39mm. To each his own, of course.

In todays world, you can wear whatever you want on your wrist with a suit. A Seamaster Pro looks a thousand times better with a suit than an Apple Watch, and you see a lot of Apple Watches with suits.

If you describe a bit more about your lifestyle and how you intend to wear the watch we can give you better advice.

Also, for some this does not matter, but you may want to consider wrist size to watch ratio too.

From a true boutique, zero. From an omega retailer (i.e. they carry other stuff) 10%.

Try on both watches. The smp is large and heavy.

Well,
I am working in uniform on daily basis which is black and white suit. So SMP is a perfect match with the colors. Colorful dials are not allowed at my work place, so If I get AT, it’s a no go for my workplace, that I need to consider. That being said, red has always been my favorite color. I didn’t measure my wrist size but I am tall and wearing a 44 mm watch fine atm. I have to try AT to see how it fits.

Now we’re getting somewhere. You haven’t told us the watch needs to slide easily under your cuffs.
