Sounds like a good salesperson, I'm surprised he's not a manager by now.

Funny, this was news just a few days ago:

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/recommended-reading-patek-philippe-lawsuit

And may I add the unnecessary and unsolicited detail that 17,000 euro is also peanuts for me. 🤦

From the article: '....Instead, Rezaei was told he needed to build up his purchase history so that he could have the opportunity to buy a 5980'. Whether the Bay Area, Europe, Vancouver, Dallas...this building up one's purchase history is why the market is often saturated by mostly drekky shite no one wants but are nevertheless forced to purchase to get on the list. Some list. Like a nightclub with face ID and an easily-bought doorman. No guarantees that $100 bill will get you in but worth the risk all the same. I've known the type: to them, it's 'only a hundy', they're a big time player, and the scene is hot hot hot.

This behaviour makes me want to barf; enabling it exacerbates the situation and ensures boutiques around the world will continue to fleece those willing to part with 'paltry' sums of money. Like $17,000, say. Oops, I mean Euro.

At least my OB is honest... Told me purchase history helps but nothing is a guarantee.

I would never do the 'buy a couple of watches you don't want at retail price and we can (maybe) get you X'. If I want something bad enough I'll pay the market price and have it on the wrist in a few days. Frankly I don't know why people play the dealer game, it's such a greasy way to do business.

I'm afraid the OP was well played by the salesman, he fell for the line, he's not likely to ever get a Snoopy from that dealer.

OP, sorry to hear. That was a pretty dog act by that salesperson to suck you in like that. Anyway, you didn't mention what other watches you got for that €17k. Are they at least watches that you don't mind wearing? And don't let that put you off Omega. Such unscrupulous people can be found anywhere.

Thank you for the empathy.
I knew ADs were often dodgy but I really didnt expect this from an official Omega boutique.
I already an owner of several speedys, so the two watches I bought were seamasters, 1 PO and diver, these were my first 2 ever Omega divers and I am enjoying them till date.
However, to be frank, there is however remorse because with the money I could have just used the budget and gotten a snoopy in the grey market at current prices, now that they have come down quite significantly. (its the watch that I wanted in the first place)
I guess I will just go back to grey and get the snoopy, just like pretty much what I have done throughout my entire watch collecting journey with other brands.

I wrote the above to warn people about the dealers game, as a victim myself.

If a miracle does happen and the OB eventually allocates me one, maybe a year from now, ill gift it to my wife so we can have matching watches.

The PO and SMP a great divers watches, from what I've heard. I'd keep them because there may be times when you need a watch with better water resistance than a Speedy (i.e. swimming). I wouldn't sell them unless I desperately needed the funds, because you'd take a hit financially.

So I would try to just enjoy the watches, but I would also pass on any correspondence you have and information to Omega in Switzerland as it feels very much a case of an individual saying what needed to be said to meet sales targets and not meeting the expectations the brand has for boutique staff. The promise of a guaranteed slot in exchange for two purchases should simply not have been made.

This is good advice to help remedy some very shabby treatment. Hate to hear stories like this -- though I've only had one faintly similar experience it turned me off the brand in question for good.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I am still unsure about writing in and complaining about an individual.
Writing in to Omega most likely will not fix things for me.

Right now, my name is still probably still on the waitlist, and if what the sales associate said is true that he managed waitlists himself, complaining about him to HQ would definitely get me off his list.

Who knows, I may still get an allocation a year or two down the road.
This is why I didnt reveal much details, such as which OB in which major city in EU.

For now, I am just a little annoyed being lied to by Omega staff, and I hope to keep Omega forum members aware, and hopefully no one else falls for the same textbook salesman trick as I did.
Cheers!

I would also just like to add that 17,000 peanuts is not a lot of peanuts for me.

Also a verbal agreeement with a sales person from a boutique whose sole purpose is to make money for that boutique…

To be frank, your moral outrage sounds a bit hard to swallow, since you were ok with the sleazy principle when you thought it would work to secure your Snoopy and you still won’t report the reprehensible behavior to Omega for fear you might miss out on the Snoopy down the road, even though doing so could contribute to changing the behavior and saving another customer from the same fate. Perhaps I have it wrong but that’s what it looks like from here.

Maybe a way to assuage your feelings of being taken for a ride by the salesperson is to donate 17k to a cancer organization or food bank or child abuse coalition or to a "No Kill" animal shelter?

Perhaps someone came in and bought 3 watches and took the no 1 spot on the list. Now he is screwed too because yet another guy came in an bought 4 watches.

That is how most Rolex watches are sold (and not sold to the person thinking he/she was no 1)

No excuse for his dishonesty (though this is surely a first-world problem on the highest order), but it might make sense if you think of it from his perspective.

You’re a hardworking Omega sales associate. All day long you’re selling car-money watches to affluent clients, and while you’re making decent money, you’re probably not going to be affording most of the goods you sell anytime soon. Still, it’s a cool gig. Watches are fun.

Then, one day, in walks a man. A foreigner. Kind of guy who spends 17k Euros before breakfast on a Tuesday. He wants an in-demand allocation-type piece, and you want to make him happy. More important, you want to make your GM and sales manager happy and move a couple of watches. (Maybe you struggled to hit your number last month because the new guy, Giuseppe, is just a little smoother than you are. Your killer instinct isn’t what it used to be. The hairline is receding. Your wife told you to get reading glasses the other day.)

The customer takes you up on your verbal offer, which you really do mean when you make it. But you also know: you’re never gonna see this guy again.

When the Snoopys roll in, what’s your priority going to be? Keeping your promise to a guy who lives thousands of miles away—for whom the Snoopy is likely a dead-end sale, at least for you and your store? Or are you going to make sure it goes to a regular you want to keep in play? What’s the better move for your commission and your store?
