Maine coon? Big fella, beautiful.

Indeed! We have 3 Maine Coons. That one is a big lady at 21lbs and not overweight. The other two are smaller, but both still larger than your average housecat. All spectacular cats.

Our Maine coon was a 30lb scaredy cat. Sweetest fellow, except when he jumped on your junk at 2am.

Cats with their stealth and climbing abilities are much more efficient at hunting small animals and birds, dogs are a bit more clumsy at hunting solo and have really evolved to be at their most efficient at hunting and running down larger animals in packs.
Of course this is a bit of a generalisation and there are of course exceptions.
Many a Shetland sheepdog and various small terriers are brilliant mouse and rat catchers, the shelties I had Shep and Monty both had amazing patience and would wait days laying perfectly still waiting to ambush and pounce on a mouse.
I had a kelpie/border collie X, Jessie was an excellent instinctive snake catcher, she just knew how to handle them, I was always worried that she'd get bitten but she never did, and lived a long life, the strange thing is that she never showed any interest in hurting other animals she just hated snakes. She would play at chasing the swallows around the dam for hours on end, but that was just a game to her, she never got close to catching one, however she would steal eggs from the chooks! but never chased them.
She used to herd the cattle but after a few kicks she gave them a fairly wide berth and only helped working them at a distance she left the serious cattle working duties to the bigger dogs.

I got a cat avatar and like it. We have a cat a daughter passed to us when she had a real baby, She leaves us half a mouse a day at our back or front door in gratitude.

Cats are just attitude covered in fur.
Yesterday one of our neighbours little dogs was doing it's nut barking as I walked past with ours.
Her next door neighbours cat sat just as prissy as this ginger one, front feet together and unflappable

You have missed the imperative “the” in Al’s statement 😉 I’m fairly certain there aren’t lions roaming his streets; though, I am certain the feral cats imagine themselves as such 🤪

Actually we do have them around here - there have been a few sightings over the years but I have never seen one personally. Not sure if they might be escaped from some lunatic keeping them as pets though. Unfortunately they don't seem interested in eating the outdoor cats, but on the other hand there's the coyotes...😉

After seeing this sickly looking bear on the road by my house my cats are definitely staying indoors

I know cats get a lot of negative press, but where would modern diagnostic medicine be without them?
