According to the online Omega calculator, caseback serial was 1947, but cal.265 was only produced in 1949. Is this a franken watch? Thanks.

That movement serial is from more like 1952-3. Either the watch is from that era or the movement has been swapped in. My money is on it being a straight watch from the early 50s, a 1940s piece would have a 10-11.99m movement serial. The caseback number is not a serial like that on the movement, it’s a separate case serial number often seen in early gold cases. It shouldn’t match.

There is a separate table somewhere showing caseback serial against year but I can’t find it. Omega stopped using that second serial sometime in the 1950s. Other local manufacturers like Dennison continued with a case serial.

The 170 in the hammer head shows your case was made by Cédex, Charles Dubois SA in Le Locle. Omega usually farmed our case making to third parties like this.

Thanks! Where can I find more information on this watch? Even the Omega website "archives" doesn't have it.

I bought it because I liked the case and dial condition and everything looked legit. Glad to know that you think it's a "straight watch"

The Omega Vintage Darabase has many omissions which can be frustrating. What more do you need to know? A google search on Omega 2664 throws up several for sale that are very similar to yours

I found only two entries on Google mentioning the 2664 for sale, and I have a strange feeling that it is the same watch I have right now.

As for the "why"... I would like to know more about the nice watch I bought after almost making several mistakes on crap vintage Omegas, being a noob to vintage watches.

Would you recommend ordering an Extract from Omega?

........................Perhaps I should pay for an Extract?

Why bother.

I think your watch is OK.

The 265 was introduced in 1949 and was used in many normal production watches at the time. However, limited production runs (e.g.: solid gold cased models) used movements that may have been in the inventory for some time.

Remember, the late 1940s, early 1950s were not the best times to sell expensive watches and the 12 million serial block was used up until 1955 in limited numbers.

You've got a point there. Thanks!

By the way, your 18K case has correct Swiss hallmarks and was made by Cédex, Charles Dubois SA, based in Le Locle, Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland, active from 1947 to 1982.

To be fair, all Omega cases were made by third party manufacturers, just like dials and hands.

Lovely watch, can't go wrong with a rose gold Omega with a textured dial.

Ah yeah. I must remember to refresh the page after I go for a beer while watching the footy 😁.

(that's my excuse anyway 😉)
