Can you tell me something about this Omega watch?

Don't get too excited about value. These smaller Chronostops are a little narrow for modern tastes and struggle to sell on here or the bay for much more than £500-600 even in good working condition which this one wont be until serviced. What I am saying is don't go mad spending money to get it right, you could easily spend more than it is worth, sentimental considerations aside. Having the original Milanese bracelet is a nice touch but doesn't significantly raise the overall value unless you part it out which adds extra faff. They fetch around £150 separately. The larger 41mm model seems to fetch nearer the grand as its size makes it more wearable. Both are lovely watches sharing a lot of DNA with the Moonwatch as the movement is a 860 derivative but not mega valuable or desirable. Yet!

Here are mine:

Sounds a little pricey, but they are compensating for unknown parts need.

Let's hope our Portugese/Spanish Brothers join us,
Hey @Vintage! Any advice?

Chris may be able to offer some guidance as well (@ChrisN).

Part of the issue is that while these have the appearance of a 3 hander, as I noted above the movement is really a stripped down chronograph and when it comes to repair, many places will charge accordingly. Watchguy has a special price for these, as does Genesis but it isn't exactly cheap, even when you go the independent route, which you should.

Thanks. A lot of good information.
And yes, I'm not that worried about the value these watches can fetch. I was just curious. Like I mentioned before, to me this is watch is priceless.

Here are mine:

Wow!
The larger one is really cool!
At first sight, it kind of reminded me of the Speedmaster Mark II (albeit a little less "busy" on the dial...). Maybe it's the way the dial fits into the case or something.
Really nice. Congratulations!

Cheers!

I have to admit that I've not heard of "Analogico" so can't comment on them.

Being a "with date" watch, it'll be a cal 920 so, as @padders says, they are a like a simplified 861 (but not as simplified as an 865 used in the larger no date versions like mine - same as the larger one of padders). They can't possibly know what would be needed inside and it wouldn't take many parts to eat most of that offer so, it's probably that price with a mainspring included. I would consider that to be fine and it's in line with my pricing, give or take.

There's every chance you can make this water resistant again so it doesn't deteriorate further and you'd hope to include new pusher seals and a new case seal to help that but, it'll probably need a crown as well for that which will be €50 on its own. A crystal would be a similar amount.

It's a nice watch so good luck!

Cheers, Chris

Very useful info! Thanks.

They also gave me a price of 405€ ($440 / £340) and that would include everything already mentioned (complete internal checkup and/or replacement of internal parts where needed), including substituting the crystal for a new one, though I'm not interested in that: don't want to change the watch externally in any way. There's a lot of memories printed in those scratches!

Both these "packages" (330€ vs 405€) would include a 24 month warranty on the service.

Thing is.... in the short term I will probably be lucky enough to find the other two wandering Chronostops. Meaning that for every service quote I get now, my mind is already multiplying it threefold! And I'm not a rich guy... have been saving for my first Omega for about six or seven months now...
I'll have to think this through and set some priorities.

Anyway, thanks for all the useful info.
Surely this won't be the last time I'll be coming here for some help.

Cheers!

Best option is to do them one at a time and spread it over a few years as it's an expensive hobby. If you like this one, try wearing it around the house for a few days and the size might grow on you.

It doesn't appear to be an Omega crystal (there is usually an Omega symbol in the middle) so, for me, I'd replace it with a genuine one as that will look better and help with the water resistance and other aspects. With a new crown and other seals, it should be water resistant unless there is case corrosion so you can wear it as much as you want (it's not a diver though!). I'd do nothing with the case as you say.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Cheers, Chris

I've no idea why I've started spotting Omega crystal symbols recently -and I'm not 100% certain on this one
but if you look closely bottom left of the centre you might be able to see a feint Omega horsehoe (head pointing to 8)

the OP can confirm one way or another

doesn't mean you shouldn't replace it if you want a new one though for technical/aesthetic purposes

If you mean a small grey'd out Omega symbol that you can just bearily see when squinting the display against a light, yes, I can confirm it's there in the middle of the display.
I just couldn't take a decent picture of it with my old iPhone. Didn't focus.
But it's there.

Cheers!

Wow! What a wonderful week this is turning out to be!

My father just paid me a visit to my office.
I guess he saw my enthusiasm last weekend, when we found the old Chronostop, and took it to his heart to try and find the remaining ones.

And he retrieved another one just like it!
Stored inside an old digital Timex watch (go figure).

This one seems to have an aftermarket bracelet, not the original milanese one.

The crown feels like it's rotating loosely, and there is no way to wind the watch even a bit at this moment.
Though when I push the crown inwards with just the smallest pressure, the chronograph then works and the minutes hand starts counting the time. So maybe it's an easy problem to fix.

And now I have two Chronostop's!
Here's hoping that the remaining and larger Chronostop also pops up eventually!

The servicing for these machines will be expensive.... anybody wants to buy a pre-owned kidney? 😉

Cheers!

Really nice watches you have.
I own one, still looking for the mesh bracelet for it.
It wears really nice.
