As long as there is more to learn, there will be more to collect. There are many rabbit holes in this hobby and they’re all quite deep (not to mention expensive)…

This all started for me with wanting a vintage watch to wear. I think my first post was in December and I now have 17 watches. Nothing really expensive but great vintage watches that I can rotate daily. I am a prolific collector(hoarder) so I have to be careful when entering a new hobby. Luckily my first transactions were with @JwRosenthal and he reeled me in and gave me some good advice about slowing down and seeing what I actually like before going crazy. Here are pics of my dealership to show how bad it can get. I started with one Schwinn Stingray and ended up with 27 in a few months. Not to mention all of the diecast cars, gas pumps, signs, dealer promotional models, redline Hotwheels, etc. I am now moving into downsizing mode as I hope to move out of California in the next 3-5 years. Luckily the watches are small and easy to carry. 😀 Basically my collecting needs change as my life changes.

I believe it's only possible to achieve a complete collection in the context of a single reference/model. For example, I own three Omega SM600s and feel like that's enough. Maybe one more, two at most... well, a white technical dial looks cute too... dammit.

understand... ihave 6 speedmasters now... what should i say?!

Hey guys!
I know, the some will smirk now and some will think what the heck?! But i am asking out of a reason. I started collecting watches about 10 years ago with a Panerai Luminor Base Titan. I love this watch not because its my first one. But over the years I got more and more in love with Omega or lets say with the Speedmaster.
Having a look on a watch lets me decide in a few seconds if I like it or not. The Alaska was my holy grail since the first glimps on it and the TinTin is as well extremely tempting... If i had bought them at the time I saw them first I would have payd less then half the price for both 😉 Beside the Alaska I have a 1863, a DSOTM and a white Albino Reduced since a few days... As the TinTin is the last model I chased a few time but didn't pull the trigger -> I did it just now and orderd one!
Now I have a significant feeling of satisfaction without a real "goal"...
I know this feeling a bit from my last sporty goal - running a Marathon under a target time - I did it and now I am satisfied since 3 years and this is the longest perio without any sporty goal ever... I am still happy!
Curious if this will stay the same with the watch passion 😉
Has anyone else made it our of the vortex of buying watches?

No…even Mike will tell you no.

There is no stopping. There is only the sweet embrace of death. But I'm still taking at least one watch with me. 😀

Of course... a themed collection of pre-1969 space-flown Speedmaster chronograph versions would barely contain 3 or 4 models 😗

Yeah, I bought a sealed TinTin dial from another member and put it into a brand new 1861, which I ordered online through Omega. The watch just happened to come with the 3861 bezel on it.

I set a limit of 12 watches. If I acquire one above that limit, one has to go. If I drop below 12, as I did recently when I sold my Sub, I will replace it (this time with a Muhle Glashutte).
I wish I'd set a limit of 12, or any other number for that matter. I'm at 80 now, and the only thing capping it at that number is my current lack of money to meaningly expand it. By that I mean no more Seiko or Citizen or watches under $500. There are about 6 or 8 I'd like to buy, but the bank balance won't allow it.

You can call it a “Rin Tin Tin.” 👍
