I believe this dates from the 1950s, has gold case, automatic wind, back plate was replaced/and or etched with personalized info about my grandfather, the back plate is 10kt gold filled, no numbers on dial, instead double bars for 12, 3, 6, 9, and single bars for remaining hours mark, bars enclosed in a raised band on face,

Yes. What sort of identification are you seeking?

Hi Tony, maybe model name, year, cost at the time, value... anything you can add to my limited history of it

The outside caseback might have a number engraved. That could tell you the date

I can't help with the reference number but wanted to add that it seems to be missing the bezel.

there is no numbering on the back. The removable cap is gold and is covered with endearments etc and no numbers etc

Do you have a photo of the movement? It seems to me that it may be a 19AS.

I don't have any tool to open it properly, so no shot of interior.

Ah, in that case, it could be useful to bring it to a watchmaker, have them carefully open it up, and take several photos to get the serial number and calibre.
