Can a Speedmaster be a proper dress watch?

I wore my Speedmaster to the Royal Garden Party in 2014... Her Majesty didn't say anything.

She is far too polite to say anything, as that would be even more rude than wearing an inappropriate watch! 😀

She gave us ice cream. I've had better.

With the lizard suit and all, she probably never noticed 🙄

Wore my '67 speedy to a wedding last night. The guy sitting next to me had on a '15 speedy. Two other guys had nice watches, and only one was really 'dress'. It was all fine. Frankly if someone in 2015 judges you by 'appropriateness' of the type of watch you are weainf they probably are not someone you would want to know/ befriend.I think 99% of the women had cell phones for watches, and had no qualms about pulling them out every 2 minutes to see if anyone sent them texts.

Sounds like those women needed Apple watches...

Does that really apply ? Pretty sure that is just the Northern Hemisphere chart 😕

Yeah I'm gunna call bullshit that diver's can't be worn as a business formal piece. Subs work almost any and every time outside of black/white tie, and even then, depending on the piece/individual, that could possibly be pulled off.

Oui. Especially if it is a "Tintin" or "Rocket Master" or whatever you want to call it.

I personally wouldn't wear my speedmaster to a "formal/black tie" event. That is what the Gruen techni-quadron is for... 😀

Having said that, I wear a suit and french cuffs to work every day, and my regular rotation is 16700 GMT, 68 transitional speedmaster and a Dunhill Car-watch.

I was just thinking about this while photographing the small collection and pondering which ones to move along. If I can find the right straps I think a speedy would be fine for most events. However I do now recognize the need for a diver/sub in the collection. Dress watches? I've got those in spades.

I'm definitely in the camp of those who wear a Speedy or Sub with a suit. In my mind it's more tasteful than the jewel-encrusted dress watches that some wear, especially at work. But to each his own.

Of course, but only in the Northern Hemisphere.

Chrono Works good for me @cicindela as I would need to time the three minutes to finish a beer before it is too warm to drink.. And the minimum 1hr in a suit before I melt....
