Can a Speedmaster be a proper dress watch?

Well, it's basically a tool watch, but I agree - it's not ugly when used as a dress chrono.

Picture I sent to a mate a while back that wore a g-shock with a suit. ::facepalm1::

Hey @STANDY, it needs another row for "Singlet Stubbies Thongs" wear and then you can add the column for the G Shock.

For me definitely no, never.

Do you mean dress@work or dress@dinner? At work, as long as it doesn't affect your work efficiency, you can wear whatever you want.

I would have switched the order of diver and chronograph - for "business formal" as one might be timing things as a business man but never go diving.

Why would I care what others might think of the watch I chose to wear, either at a mud wrestling event, or an opera? I very much doubt that the majority of people who wear a Timex everywhere they go, would recognize the sort of watches that appeal to watchophiles!

if I see something like that, my first thought is: "he probably only has one nice watch - and this one is it " 😎

I'm afraid that the answer is no. However, on casual Friday, you're in luck!

If you're meeting the Queen at a formal event or christening a multi billion dollar skyscraper then no.
But for a wedding or business event for mere mortals I don't see any issues.

What about these?

I can't believe that no one else said it: If I owned these beauties, I'd wear them all at the same time with tails ::psy::

I think it all depends how "correct" one wishes to be. I have a lovely Omega tank watch. Gold case, black strap. Certainly it's a more "correct" dress watch.

However, I won't hesitate to wear a chronograph with a suit...sometimes the rugged look of the watch is a nice counterpoint to the formality of the suit.

The Moonwatch, on me, is just a touch large to glide easily under French cuffs, though. I've got a 39mm Speedmaster Day Date that fits better in this regard, and has a "dressier" appearance.

The Day Date, like some of the chronos posted in this thread lies in the middle of that spectrum with "tool" or "sports" watches at one end and "dress" watches at the other.

The Moonwatch is farther along that spectrum towards the tool watch end...but, it's a fine, classic watch and so I often wear it with a suit...and I'd even wear it with a dinner jacket, if I felt like it, particularly now that it's on a black crocodile strap.

All fashion, watches and jewelry are elements of personal style, and to each his (or her) own...

Here's that Day Date Speedmaster...

I wore my Speedmaster to the Royal Garden Party in 2014... Her Majesty didn't say anything.
