I have only run into one watch with a ruby cylinder escapement. It was an English watch by John Sewill from circa the early 19th century.
John Sewill, or perhaps Joseph Sewill? The latter was a well known chronometer maker to the Royal Navy. Regarding the dating, I would respectfully rather suggest second half of the 19th century, looking at the stem winding and the form of the crown. And a repeater, great, even more in combination with a ruby cylinder escapement.

As my monicker implies, I am Canadian, not American. My guess is the movement you showed in your previous post is an Elgin “convertible”? An Elgin “convertible” appeared on the MB some time ago. See it here.

It has been about 40 years since I had this watch in my hands. You are likely correct about Sewill’s first name. I had forgotten that this watch was a repeater, but I checked the image, and you’re correct. And in light of the fact that the original owner (Tajes) was the dictator in Ecuador in the late 1890s, the Sewill watch most likely was produced in the last quarter of the 19th century.

Indeed, that picture of the Elgin was posted by you! Unwittingly, I sought out that picture without checking to see who had posted it.

As to my nationality, my late father was a U S citizen when I was born, although he had lived in Canada for about 30 years when I was born. The U S was on a witch hunt (the McCarthy era), looking for draft dodgers. My father had served in the RCAF. He left the U S, when he was only about 10 years old (circa 1910). He was never served with a draft notice. Upon crossing into the U S in 1951, the border people found out he was a U S citizen who had served in the armed forces of a foreign power (Canada), and they forbade him entry into the U S! They tried THAT stunt with the wrong guy! Long story short, we continued our vacation in the U S, but he was so pissed off with U S immigration, that as SOON as we got back to Calgary, he took out Canadian citizenship! So, in way, I WAS entitled to answer your quiz! ::rimshot::

They’d finally got the substrate right and the Melamine was stable.

circa 1965 and the time was nigh, and the watchtower bells were being mounted, and soon would be tolling.

It’s hard to see, but on both the bezel and perimeter of the case back, the name Hamilton can be seen. The serial number on the 992B movement is from the last decade of the Hamilton company. Looks in nice condition.

Several years ago, Hamilton (Swatch) had the gall to introduce a modern pocket watch to commemorate 130 years of the Hamilton company. The watch was offered for $1,395.00. It contained a bog stock calibre ETA 9647 movement in a plated case with a painted dial, and a fancy decorated case back. IIRC, it came in a fancy wooden case. No serious, knowledgeable Hamilton collector would ever be lured into buying such a travesty! The genuine article only, for me!

I remember when that Swatch "Hamilton" came out. It was hideous and cost more than a decent 950.

That, plus they produced 917 of these things. The number 917 being the address for the Hamilton factory. I wonder how many they sold? I see them listed for sale in the $1,650 range, to closer to $2,500 for one in a gold plated case.The majority of the real article (992Bj for sale seems to range from in the $450 range, to about $1,000.

Advice on this Illinois Bunn Special? It has been suggested that I should add one to the collection. These are the only pics, being sold locally on FB for the asking price of $350. Probably can be negotiated down to $300. Being sold as a runner. Anything jump out that sets off alarms?

No evidence of watchmaker repair numbers inside the case back. Looks like it might be a pristine example. A more jaundiced eye than mine might find the odd negative, but nothing jumps out at me. A servicing would be in order, and heaven knows what an in depth examination might find. The gold filled case shows no brassing. Price is decent.

Maybe a hairline crack on the dial just ahead of 1:00? Could be on the crystal. Not a reason to avoid the watch, but a good reason to promote a lower price

If that turned up locally at that price it would be mine, all mine.

I have (only) three Omega pocket watches. Two of mine are Brandt (Omega) model CCR, 19-jewel, railroad grade models. The third one is an art nouveau model with a 13-ligne movement, in a fancy embossed case. One of my Brandts and the fancy one are private label watches.
