Buying my husband a Speedmaster... Advice Needed

Alright.... I'm close! I am planning to go with a new Speedy Pro. @Kringkily has a .005 and the .001, the steel bracelet/leather strap models. I think I plan to go with the steel bracelet, but any other thoughts or considerations before I pull the trigger?

I think you've gone about this a great way, first of all. Well done.

Omega have made a number of different bracelets over the years; certain bracelets are "correct" to specific watches. If you get a new watch with the factory supplied bracelet then you're always going to have the "correct" bracelet for the watch. This is, to my mind, the best way to go.

Later, you or your husband can get alternate leather straps which can be swapped about to his heart's content. Speedmasters have an almost unique ability to look great, yet different, on any leather strap. You can even have them custom made for very little money.

The seller that you make the purchase from is entirely your choice. I don't often buy new watches so I can't give advice on that other than to see the amount of positive feedback that certain sellers have on here.

Finally, as others have said: we want a wrist shot when he gets his gift!

Folks,

Thank you so much for helping my wife. She did a great job, and looks like she got some great guidance from you all, which makes the gift even more meaningful. She gave it to me last night - it is perfect and I couldn’t be happier! I’m afraid she knows more than I do about Speedmasters now, so I’ll have to catch up!

As promised, here is a shot of it. I got the stainless bracelet but immediately swapped it out for the NATO strap b/c I need to take a couple of links out to get it to fit. Anyway, thanks again!!

Congratulations - glad to hear you’re happy with the new watch and hope you’ll wear it in good health for many, many years to come.

I’d look for the -69 also. There is nothing quite like the Moon watch and the Pre-moon really adds to in(in my opinion)

Congrats and you are a lucky guy to have a wife who went so far as to sign up for a watch forum to get advice on purchasing this gift for you.

It’s been fun following this thread and it’s cool that you stopped by yourself with a picture! Enjoy the Speedy!

This is an awesome thread! Congrats on securing such a beautiful watch!

Now heads up, do not be like me and freak out when the hesalite has minor hairline scratches! 👍
