What country it comes from is irrelevant. It is made in Switzerland and whatever the rate of the week is from there is what you pay.

Regardless of tariffs, I’d want to see much better photos of the watch before spending any money on it.

Right now it looks like a heavily polished redial.

That watch is a piece of junk worth a few hundred dollars at best, so in this instance the tariffs might have actually saved you some money.

What are the chances he wants a prize for that?😉

What country are you in, OP? Different places have different taxes, tariffs, customs duties, etc. We'd need to know where you are.

piece of junk may have been a little harsh but - whilst it superficially looks like a nice watch it isn’t worth anything like $3,500.

First of all it is not an 18k gold watch.

It is a 14k gold capped watch with a 14k gold bezel.
It is not any kind of ‘jumbo’ watch at 34.5mm.

The case is heavily polished.
The dial has been repainted.

This is a (max) $1000 watch.
However, some buyers not knowing they are being fleeced might stump up the ludicrous asking price.

Look at this thread to see what a good 2852 should look like.

Hope that helps.

As always, a comprehensive description. With the repainted dial, I can't see it being worth anywhere near $1k in the US, to be honest. A sucker might pay $500. The dial and case are very poor.

Country it ships from is not relevant, it is a Swiss made watch - currently 39%

When I order it to be shipped to Germany, I would have to pay nothing in tarriff and tax and fees!
(ok ok, at least you said you are in the US..
When its about tarriffs, its UK or US, all others know, what to pay.)

New Swiss tariff is 15% but don't know if this is officially in place yet.

When I in Germany order a watch in US, UK Japan or Switzerland, I know, I have to pay 19% VAT (the real custom tarriff fees for a watch are about 1€), and handling fees ~50€.
So no problem I can calculate.
Switzerland and UK is usually more expensive than EU, US and Japan less, so no problem for me to order, I know what I have to pay.
And when I am the seller, I can clearly ask for a price and fees added.
When the tarriffs and procedures are fixed, its easy to decide.
Ok, the shippers like DHL Fedex a.s.o have to adapt these procedures as well for higher values than 1000€ (DHL)....
So we look forward for a further free international market for collectables.

Possibly you’re wondering whether you can find a bargain abroad and have it shipped over. In that context the answer leans towards maybe, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

There are deals out there, that’s why people regularly buy from overseas and why dealers fly to Japan, Hong Kong and elsewhere. But with a vintage piece you really need to know the watch inside out and have a decent level of general watch knowledge to make sure the “bargain” is actually what you think it is. Otherwise you’re far better off sticking to a reputable dealer or a trusted private seller on a forum like this.

As a very basic rule you’ll be hit with 20 percent VAT at minimum, and if you’re covering postage it’ll usually be £100 or more for something like this once it’s properly insured.

That dial texture alone makes it a great pickup.
For $3500 I can't see how it would qualify as a great pick up

As I wrote earlier, it is superficially a nice watch - and once upon a time it was a really lovely watch - but not any more.
