Here's one end of the spectrum: my minimal mod of the Broad Arrow. It originally had a polished steel bezel, I put on an (original Omega) brushed one meant for a later watch.

I think it improves the look a lot (the original is too shiny for me). And easily reversible if I ever decide to sell it!
(I've also tried a couple different black bezels on it... )

You got a picture with a black bezel please?

Found these with a pulsations bezel. I quite like it! And there were 2915-3’s with BA hands and black bezels so there’s a bit of “historical” precedent for the look ;-)

This is why I have chosen not to add to the muddying of the waters, so I don't do these mods.
One of the many things that have made me respect you so much is how you politely declined to do mods without prejudice or ill will against the person requesting it. It's refreshing to deal with someone who takes a position to not do something without looking down on those who do it. 👍

My BYOS:

As a rule, all watches hold something special which you will NOT find on the original watch e.g. a special sweep second hand or else.

All the reluming (or colouring of the hands) were done by my friend James Hyman, who is really a wizard too and very kind, skilled and helpful man. Short: a gentleman. Many thanks again James!
I personally like what you have done very much. In the car community, there are people who value rare automobiles in perfect original condition, others who like a partially restored to original condition, still others who like to resto-mod and then some who completely customize and modify the original to something different and unique. They all co-exist and none are worse off for it.

I personally own 4 Speedmasters:

- Speedy Tuesday II Ultraman LE (FS because I have found I don't enjoy wearing something when doing so will inevitably take away 'value')
- the other 3 are all modified Speedies:
--- Apollo 11 35th anniv dial mod (no case back, not trying to be fully authentic, just love the dial)
--- Gemini IV dial mod (no case back, just love the dial)
--- modern Pro dial with fauxlumination by James Hyman (vintage-esque look with no concern for 'value') -- of all my watches, this is the one I wear most often!

I built this one several years ago, got the idea from someone on WUS who called it the "Blue Moon"

Would want to use a nice tritium watch for example - so assume modern reference as donor or base for modification...
That was meant to say "would NOT want to use a nice tritium watch - e.g. 3950.50...
My suggestion would be to get a standard 3570.50 (e.g. 2000's model) for this mod. Same base model as the actual Japan racing so you can make it 100% faithful to the original if you wish.
Thanks for this - I'm not a fan of luminova but of course that's all negated with the service dialset... there are a few built examples of the Japanese Racing Dial around but sellers are wanting a BIG mark-up on the cost of the components. I struggle to change bracelets and straps, so definitely not into 'building' my own - hence finding components and someone who can...

Love this one, I'm going to have the same thing done to my 3594.50 when it's next in for service. Funnily enough I recently sourced the Gemini IV dial from a guy who had done the same build - called it the "Smurfmaster" though.

Haha I've noticed this as well, there have been a couple on ebay in recent months, basically a 3.5k (AUD) standard speedmaster head on strap with different service dial and hands, asking 10k (or more) for it...

It's been a tough slog building up a small collection of mod parts for reasonable prices over the last couple of years, I've had some luck on ebay and talking to local watchmakers, also can't go wrong with parts or build sales from fellow enthusiasts on OF 👍

Nice Thread, Dirk, maybe you'd like to meet up in person sometime?

My First Omega Speedmaster mod (CK2915-1), introduced here at the Uhrforum and perfekt with the Uncle Seiko US 1035...

Hi Omega511,
many thanks for your post. A nice mod on FOIS. Well done.
And I would agree to meet here in Germany if there might be a chance.
Perhaps we can arrange something via personal note.

I love this strap combo with that dial.

Also super cool to have a one of a kind!

I've tried on a couple different color NATOs so far, and every single one of them is so cool!

That dial is just dreamy...👍

It is a great dial. I wasn't sure how it would work in the DLC-coated case, but the black lends a hint of a minty greenish hue to the dial in a way that the steel case doesn't quite. It's awesome!
