Glad to see you have success. Interesting to read of the problem and then all of the solutions and ideas and finally, it's out.

You should save the pin as an original part! ;-)

I can’t find it, haha! I was tapping the case on the plastic part of a hammer that came with a cheap bracelet adjustment kit. I figured I would hear it if the bit fell out, but I did not. Just inspected the lug hole and it was gone.

I’ve spent enough time crawling around with a flashlight looking for screws or other tiny parts that I’ve dropped. I think I’ll sacrifice this bit to the vacuum cleaner gods 😉

Do you think acetone is a better solvent for this than the rubbing alcohol? I can add that to my list when I go to pick up the push pins. I just checked my wife’s bathroom, and she doesn’t seem to have any.
A mixture of acetone and automatic gearbox oil is supposed to be the best ease it oil as recommended by motor mechanics.

During my 40 years as an engineer I found that paraffin was the best solution in cases like this. Then again, I suppose it's not easy to find these days.

You can actually still get bars of it at grocery stores near the canning supplies. Used to seal up the lids.

I know this because it was also a cheap source for curb wax as a young skateboarder ::psy::

Ha, I remember waxing curbs in my teens. We would usually use candles though!

I still have my skateboard in storage. Last time I was there picking up some junk, I rolled around the halls of Cube Smart for 10 minutes or so. Forgot how good it feels.

Old thread but I thought I’d add this: same problem with a Zodiac quartz diver, sentimental value. I used one of those small button rare earth magnets and it came right out on the magnet. Of course, it didn’t stick to the case since it’s ss but but the pin must have been plain steel, which is why it rusted.
