Random question but what is the face size compared to a standard Moonwatch 1861 Hessalite? I don’t have the best eyesight and wondered on the sizing of the face and subdials. Any comments on general visibility in comparison would also be great. Thanks.

I think it’s the same size. I actually find it more legible given there’s less clutter due to writing and longer hour markers etc. The sub dials are the same and reasonably legible for me. Better than the other chrono watches I’ve owned for sure

While I can't guarantee that Omega didn't update [the size of] their dials in the past decades, it's rather unlikely.

In terms of the Calibre 321 "Ed White", Omega went out of their way to recreate the 321 1-1 with the original, so I sincerely doubt they would've varied in terms of case or dial size...

Therefore, according to the most awesome "Moonwatch Only" authors, both the 321 & 861 (/1861) dials measure exactly 31.20 mm. They got their info straight from the horse's mouth - Jean Singer & Cie SA, the company that made* the dials way back when 👍
*I assume Omega makes them "in-house" now... 🤔 If anyone knows for sure, please let us know 😀

When designing the Speedmaster Professional, Omega decided to "beef up" the case from the original 38.2mm to 42mm, just slightly larger than the bezel, if we don't take the asymmetrical (crown-guard) side into account. The black* bezel diameter is actually identical for both the Speedmaster & Speedmaster Professional at 39.7mm!
*The steel bezels were ~1mm smaller at 38.6mm.

39.7mm bezel over the 42mm case...

Thank you for taking the time to post that extremely informative answer. Much appreciated. Looks like I will be picking one of these bad boys up at some point in the near future.

Something to entertain you while you wait...

Ed White's house in El Lago, Texas. His neighbor on the right was Neil Armstrong.

That's what we call a "tight knit community".
Most Apollo-era astronauts lived around there, no!?

They did, if not in the same community then in one nect to it. Jim Lovell lived down the street as did others.

Agreed - I would've thought that the number of OF members with 321s would be higher by now... .

I'm guessing it's a combination of availability, price, the subsequent release of the (relatively) more affordable new 3861 Professionals and of course "the" Snoopy... .
Perhaps the latter is more of an "apples to oranges" given that the 321 and Snoopy a very different and are both very appealing but for radically different reasons.

All I can say is that the 321 has made my "horological year" and although I am interested in a few other 2020-2021 releases I would be more than fine if this is my only NWA of 2021 😁

A few recent pics...
