Quite funny how the AML catches the light, sometimes that is all you can see, almost a little mirror.

Yes, and at times it disappears completely. I first noticed this on pre-moon watches...

late night musing/vent:

Rolex stainless sports are notoriously elusive, but after less than 4 months, and without any deposit, I got the call today for my new no-date sub (it’s goood).

Sitting here it struck me that, for the 321/Ed White, it is nearly 12 months since I put down a full $15K deposit on release day, and still no end in sight...

Admittedly, the more interesting comparison than the no-date sub would be the Daytona. At the same time, before I catch the 321/Ed White I might catch both a Sub and a GMT, for about the same amount of money...

Like you had suggested, I would not compare the availability of the submariner to the Ed White. Rolex probably makes several thousands of submariners each year. Omega's estimate for the 321 is between 1000 to 2000 per year. With COVID impacting production, the numbers will likely be even lower this year. Hope you get yours soon. It is well worth the wait. Fantastic piece!

I can echo @cvalue13 experience. Although it is purportedly claimed that Rolex manufacturers somewhere around 1 million watches a year, you'd be hard pressed to find inventory, just about anywhere. But somehow, almost magically, they always appear. Speaking to an Omega AD today it's really interesting how inventory shifts so quickly. I purchased my AirKing last Dec, 2 weeks later got a call for the no-date sub (all the while, no promises, "no chance I'll receive one anytime soon"). The whole Rolex thing is like a shell game.

But this 321, I was quoted 3 years. I anticipate 5. To your point, they make an estimated 1-2k per year, that number won't jump to 50k to meet demand.

Do you mind noting (A) where you are located, and (B) whether you would consider yourself a VIP-VIP?

It seems those two factors have become the norm curiosities for *somewhat* tracking where, and under what conditions, these things are dribbling out!

looks great - congrats!

I agree with all you said, and only for conversation make a few additional points for the conversation:

True that Rolex makes far more subs than Omega makes 321s; however, it is also true that the demand for an $8K Rolex sub is exponentially higher than the demand for a $15K Omega Speedmaster indistinguishable (to almost everyone) from the $4K version.

But maybe more distinct and central to my venting, was the Omega boutiques early practice of taking - in some cases - full deposits to secure a “spot” in line. (It seems other boutiques took partial deposits, or that the practice waned later when wait times became >3yr, etc. - but those who called in the first few hours of release were often met with the request for some or all of the money to be deemed worthy to wait.).

In all, though, my vent was probably only limited to a momentary musing of the odd situation of experiencing with Omega something I’d only expect to experience with Rolex, and - in some ways - experiencing it on steroids (eg, a full deposit and >1yr wait). It’s an obvious point, but one worth a sanity check on now that we’re a year out from release! ‍♂️

I am located in Paris, France.

If I am not considering myself as VIP (I would immediately resign from any VIP club! 😜), I must admit that I have been well treated by the Omega Boutique for more than 10 years. In the old days, when I was still relying on Omega Bienne for the service of my vintage watches ( what an idea! ::facepalm1:: ), I was a real pain for the Paris Boutique that was acting as single point of contact and had to deal with my special requests ... and the staff always remained nice and supportive to negotiate with the teams based in Switzerland on my behalf. More recently, they managed to get me the exact same number for each of the 3 individual editions of the '57 trilogy, altough I did not order the Trilogy set (because of the number marked on the dials).

Long story short: I don't know if I am considered as VIP, but I am pretty sure they know that I am not a watch flipper, and truly passionate about watches, and Omega in particular.

thank you for the info! And congrats again!

Picked up my 321 yesterday and it is stunning. Even my wife likes it.

Gadget, could we trouble you for location, etc., to help us curious (and hopeful) to desperately grasp at wildly imperfect information in an effort to wish our own watches to come in?

I know of two to NYC and one to Atlanta OB’s.

I picked mine up ~3 weeks ago in Hawaii at my local OB.

Congrats to all that have received theirs, the 321 is stunning. I spoke w my local AD here in Florida & they can’t get any. Similar to obtaining a Daytona though I do have a 20% deposit w them on the new 50th Snoopy. That they do believe he can get.
