And more detailed dissection of the
321 movement:
.
Okay, sat through this guy's presentation for 44 minutes...I was hoping he would actually answer the question why he thinks the 321 is so much better, but he really doesn't. That being said it was somewhat painful and puzzling in several areas. Lots of incorrect terms used throughout, but that's not unusual.
Some poor practices displayed, such as incomplete disassembly - he leaves the hammer spring, sliding gear, sliding gear spring etc. on this bridge...
In the follow-up video it appears the same parts are still on the bridge after final cleaning, so not a full and proper disassembly.
He also is prying off bridges with a steel screwdriver...
An absolute no-no, as this will greatly increase the chances of scratching the plates and bridges. I use bronze tweezers or a small brass tool that I fabricated to remove bridges.
But he also says some things that don't make much sense at all. When he removes the wheel train and barrel bridge in the first photo, he mentions that the crown wheel is missing a tooth, but it "winds smoothly". How would it wind okay missing a tooth? How would he know it's missing a tooth before he took it apart, unless he felt something in the winding?
He then says he is going to have to find one "through his contacts" and he's not sure he can find one, and in any case he's not too worried about it. This guy claims to be Omega certified (OWME), and Omega has this part in stock...all he would have to do is order one, and they aren't expensive. Not replacing this risks damage to both the ratchet wheel, but more importantly the winding pinion. The winding pinion is discontinued and are expensive when you find them. Note that he never addresses this in the next video, so we don't know if he replaced it or not.
The next odd thing is when he's removing the hour recorder bridge on the dial side. He states that you can;t remove this with the barrel still in place, which is certainly not correct. He says something like "If I would have taken this off the barrel would have no support and everything would have let go." He makes it sound like the whole thing will fall apart - it won't - I remove this bridge all the time before I remove the barrel, and there's 100% no issue doing this...here's one where I have removed the bridge with the barrel in place - no catastrophic results...
I've watched the next one, and it doesn't get any better...
