Still not sure I fully understand the milky ring thing. If anyone is willing to put a non-milky and a milky pic next to each other that would be appreciated.

Also, what’s hesalite and what’s the significance of it?

Thanks again. Very informative this thread.

Borrowing these pics from this excellent post, but you'll notice the milky ring on the left watch in both pictures (left is sapphire, right is hesalite).

Just Google hesalite vs sapphire and you'll find the age old dilemma of which is better. Personally, I would've liked to have seen hesalite on the 50th anniversary piece as it is more in keeping with the original Moonwatch, but I can see why they went with sapphire as it is more premium.

Ugh, once you see the "milky circle outline" it cannot be unseen.

What would everyone do if Omega discontinued old school hesalite and cheap printed tachy bezels in favor of sapphire glass and ceramic when they cancel the old 861 movement? Oh, the humanity.

For the first month all disgusted and after all on waiting list, as happened for all new products

Great informative post, thanks. On that last pic there is still a halo effect even with the hesalite, albeit not as obvious as with sapphire.

Would still prefer sapphire due to its increased resistance to damage/scratches.
