Would they have been classed as "Royals" back in the early 70's ?
I had a brown pair in those days and unusually for teenage fashions, they were hard wearing.
The plain ones that the teachers all seemed to wear were "Comos"

That's right yes. They were popularised by the Mods back in the 70s. I find Oxblood a very versatile colour.

I was a skinhead or suedehead back in those days which included wearing Oxblood DM's.
I always preferred Monkey Boots and the boots suited smaller/younger feet.
I loved those fashions

A brand called Solovair do a nice monkey boot. I like them. Back in the early 00s I worked in a shop called Sam Walker in Covent Garden. We sold a lot of clothing that appealled to the Mods, Suedeheads, soul boys. Fred Perry's, Lonsdale, Gabbicci loads of stuff. On Sundays loads of the scooter guys would ride up. Good days.

Solovair also do a better Doc Marten than Doc Marten do.
My missus has about 15 pairs of DM's and they look good but for some reason I can't get on with them.

I had a pair of Doc Marten brogues for a few years, unworn.

I had about 6 Fred Perry polos and one of those pique cardies but after seeing loads of other owd blokes dressed the same way at a Northern Soul do, I chucked them out 馃槨 then wished I hadn't.

My Loake Burfords were great for dancing in because of the leather soles but now I need a knee replacement, they're retired from that.

I still love the skin/suedehead/mod fashions and think they're the best ever

I've never been a part of that scene, but it reminds me I wore my black Rigger Commandos (the lace ups I shared a picture of earlier) with my jeans rolled and my grandpa commented I looked like a "bovver boy" - which I had to google as that's definitely not a term in modern Australia haha.

On the topic of British boots, we've started dabbling with Charles F. Stead suedes down my way finally. Really, really good tannery - particularly their Waxy Commander. I tried a pair on with that leather and it felt wet to the touch it was so waxed up. Would definitely like a boot with C.F. Stead leather one day.

Hahahaha yeah bovver boys ; the turns up over the jeans which were parallels.

I remember going to watch Clockwork Orange at the "pictures" and I think every teenager there had DM's on including me

The one pair of suede boots I've got are fairly heavy and of course they have to be blue.
The leather on those waxy Blenheims is pretty thick making the boot winter only.
When I wear them I feel like John Steed of Avengers fame.
