A natural outcome of the Defund the Police movement in the US. As the article states low, or no, bail for these crooks means they are quickly back out on the streets to continue the mayhem. It's a low risk, high reward, activity now in many cities.
Yes I'm sure this robber in the UK would have never committed a crime if not inspired by completely unrelated things in a whole different country. Inspired by the "low risk" he now carries a gun in a country with strict gun laws that carry severe penalties.

I think Evitzee may have been responding to the US article posted previously by someone.

See that is just nasty I have fought off a robbery. It was just one guy almost as soon as I fought back he backed off. If three people try to rob me I’d hope the give me the opportunity to just give up the goods. I’m all for a fair fight but if you got a group don’t just starting beating people that’s horrible.

It happened when he got in the car, one on the driver side outside the car, one on the passagers seat and one behind im choking him… and ma man didnt let the watch go!!!

fight back guys… unless there is a gun

Remember this?

Bernie says, "I've been robbed and beaten. Now - how can I monetize this?"

Where the hell does everyone wear their watches these days with all of this crime and uncertainty going on that everyone is pointing out!?

Im definitely buying more Seikos for when i visit Europe and the US from now on.

Where are you currently living?

If I'm going somewhere I'm familiar with, or am out during the day I'll wear it. Things change a bit for me if I'm going out in the evening. That being said, brazen crimes like carjackings have been happening frequently all over Chicago and have been creeping into neighborhoods that used to be free of that nonsense.

Dubai, so maybe im leading a sheltered life since i left the UK 12 years ago. I used to live in the midlands not far from Birmingham but never had anyone threaten me for my Seamaster when i lived in the UK..... maybe there is a reason for that 😁

Never ever felt threatened in Dubai since i expanded my watch collection to encompass a number of other watches. On the one hand i guess a $10k watch does not stand out here, even so ive never heard of anyone being forcefully robbed for a watch of any value here. I guess thats why im finding all these tales of Jeopardy interesting / worrying as i do take my watches on vacations with me around the world.

Actual crime statistics of the 70’s through late 90’s: worst in U.S. history

People today who grew up in the 70’s through late 90’s: “growing up was so amazing, before all this crazy stuff - I used to hitchhike to concerts, now I never leave the house

I avoid places that aren’t comparatively safe - and/or where you’re not allowed to defend yourself.

Where in the world are you not allowed to defend yourself? Or is this a gun thing?

Dubai is definitely a somewhat rarified and ( generally) a very safe place to live.

An Emirati is unlikely to rob you because as you say, their watches are likely to be infinitely more valuable than a UK ex-pat.
And a working non-emirati is unlikely to rob you as, if caught, they would be gaoled then deported for life losing their invaluable income and the remittance they send home for their family.

High profile cases aside, UK cities are nowhere near as bad as is being made out for the man ( or woman) in the street wearing a decent watch but it may depend on which city you are in of course.

we have had many GTGs where invitees have travelled from all over the country with a genuinely mind-boggling array of watches and had no problems (even after getting rat-arsed and falling asleep on the train on the way home….😁)

People are stupid. Bragging online. Show off. Robbers are stupid too. Richard Mille stolen ? Hard to sell. Oh Dear .....
These are celebrities with occupations that somewhat require showing themselves off in the limelight, often wearing the equipment provided by sponsors. Doesn’t really help to blame the victims.

How could this armed robbery occur in London? Guns aren't allowed there, even the Bobbies don't carry I hear.

Good question; I mean, breaking the speed limit isn’t allowed in London either, but guess how many people are out there with cars!

I take it you’re being sarcastic. So yeah, you have your own answer. I know this is an international forum and different rules and cultures apply.
I’ve lived now in the US for over 20 years but I’m originally from continental Europe. So the concepts of natural rights and what it takes to maintain a free society were a bit of personal learning curve.
Today I more or less refuse to go to places where I’m not allowed to carry unless I absolutely have to. I’m not going to be just a victim.
