This is a classic dilemma with only one logical solution. You need to go buy a new watch!
I don't even have an event to go to and i may take this advise.

Because 35mm is the correct size for that type of watch.

Aye... and, Nomos has nothing I personally favor more than this right now. The thing is dead sexy!

not time to get the Connie fixed (needs to go to Omega) .
I'm surprised this slipped through the net without comment
The general concensus is don't send your vintage watches to Omega but use an independent watchmaker
As for dress code
Anything goes - but the simpler the better for a black tie event
(My vote would be the Connie)
But you wouldn't wear brown shoes with an evening suit - so a tan strap is a definite no no

I agree with JeroenS. Watches are wrong with evening clothes anyway. Don't wear a watch at all. Try to forget about the time.

I did go to my local watchmaker, who works on Rolex/Tudor, Breitling, Omega etc and has a parts account. It was he that recommended sending to Omega.

I think based on my options I'll put the Speedy back on the bracelet, with a view to getting the Connie fixed (and looking for another, perhaps more modern dress watch!)

Why do you need to wear a watch? 馃槙

But if you must.... no one else will care or notice anyway, so please youself with the selection.

People might notice, but nobody will care. I noticed a few daytonas and subs at a black tie event I was at last month.

I wore a Nomos Orion 38 and I think it looked good.

Is (s)he more used to working on modern watches?
I'd be nervous about sending the Connie to Omega if you want to retain its originality
Perhaps look for an alternative watchmaker for your vintage watches?
- and pics of the Connie in question please!

The answer is obvious. That old G-Shock square in the bottom drawer. I hope you wore it and will report back how many evil stares you got. Better yet if you were publicly castigated. 馃え

Strange. Did your watchmaker tell you what was wrong with your Constellation? I thought the point of all the hoops Omega made watchmakers jump through in order to have parts accounts was that they could work on anything from the past 75 years or so.

Don't think it looked too bad! There were a huge selection of watches, including what looked like an old, battered SEIKO diver!

The watchmaker in question said it looked like there has been battery leakage that had affected some of the parts.

Ah!
I nearly asked about the cufflinks
With a Connie (especially a quartz one) they would have looked silly
But with the Speedy they make more sense
All good 馃憤

Too bad about the Connie. Reasons for wearing mechanical no. 27, I guess.
