Birth year watches

How did you go about researching your birth year watch? I've looked in the archives that I have and there's nothing for my birth year. It doesn't necessarily need to be an Omega but something that was important that year so how did you determine what birth watch you researched and purchased?

My gold Patek Phillipe clashed with my shorts, should have worn the Vacheron..
I'm a 1951 actually, that explains the Avante Garde fashion.

If you look at the photo in Uncle Buck's post above, someone is showing a bit too much stuff.

Depends on how sure you want to be. On an Omega you can order an extract and be sure. You can use serial number charts which may or may not be right... err exact.

Seiko is pretty easy as the serial encodes production month and year.

Some periods of Rolex are very exact.

!3,xxx,xxx is '51 by Maddux, '52 by most charts, then there are shelf life questions and purchase questions...
Who knows.
I've decided that unless it's a gift given at birth, I don't really give a rat's ass. It's birth era!
You could probably buy a Centenary new in '51.

Nope '54 - 56 latest - It's the Ist Gen 10ATM Zodiac diver. Until a few years ago they were considered to be myths and at best Frankenwatches until they were confirmed in the catalogue. Now they fetch a premium for a Zodiac, last one sold went for a little over 2k. The photo I have added below is a '66 Zodiac Seawolf.

Agree. And those who try to find "birth year" speedies have a whole set of different problems.

But how did you find it?

Private Zodiac seller from Vintage Zodiac Forum. Nothing special because to me birth watches are a miscalculation of nomenclature 😗 I buy a watch because I have an interest in it's provenance as a model or whatever but not because of some manufactured personal connection
