Birth year watches

Depends on how sure you want to be. On an Omega you can order an extract and be sure. You can use serial number charts which may or may not be right... err exact.

Seiko is pretty easy as the serial encodes production month and year.

Some periods of Rolex are very exact.

It would be nice to have a birth 'month' Seiko!

December 1982.

To answer the OP’s question I just put 1982 watch into eBay and got lucky finding a birth month & year Seiko

@Maganator - so you just bought that Seiko now?
I bought it in 2017. Always keep my eye out for birth year watches and got lucky on eBay.

Other place to look is Chrono24 where you can filter by year of manufacture - do your own research with what you find there though as the information is not always correct

Agree. And those who try to find "birth year" speedies have a whole set of different problems.

It depends in which half of the century you were born 😜

Wasn’t easy but quite happy I’ve managed to get that birth year Speedy 😀

A "birthday watch" popped up a year or so. Yes a birthday not birthyear watch since the Extract clearly stated production date so. An original speedmaster moonphase 345.0809. However I was just into watch, had no gut and fund for a 10k euro watch.😟😟

What a pity - a birthday watch would have been very cool.

A friend of mine bought a new watch for his newborn baby which he will get at his 18th birthday.

That is a really cool idea 👍

I'd love one of those as well, not a birthyear, but screw it, who cares 😀
You think that 10€k are enough to score a nice one today ?

Not anymore if you want a full set. ::facepalm1::

Watch / bracelet might still be possible...

You have to have the proper papers if you want to get through the checkpoints.

This serial number table is generally accepted as being accurate for vintage Breitling watches if you want to look at that brand. Lots of nice 50s watches in that stable. Not cheap anymore I'm afraid, but not Speedmaster crazy expensive either.

Go to chrono 24 and type in your year in search. Lots to choose from. Sadly my birth year must have been one of the most boring watch years ever. 😡

Here's my 1969 Seamaster cal 750:

I used to have a '69 Cosmic cal 752 and Seamaster cal 751 to round out the set, but I sold them. Deep regret there:

All were eBay finds, with many hours of research time invested. My wife was not happy with me during that period of my life, lol.

I bought a Speedy with a serial # in the range of my birth year. After a year I got the extract and it came back a year older than me. Oh well didn't diminish my enjoyment of the watch. Hard to get that exact year.

Bought this as an 1986 but when extract arrived it was from 1985 (my birthyear). A very pleasant surprise 😀

I walked through Berlin’s Checkpoint Charlie in the mid 70’s. Luckily, it was a round trip. Don’t remember any decent watch boutiques on the East Berlin side.
