I thought the whole purpose of that valve was to let the helium escape. then, I don't have much experience with divers.

Yes but only if there is an excess of pressure, not all pressure.

I worry more about the effect of the 1996 law that stipulated that the US National Helium Reserve - by far the biggest store of helium in the world - had to be sold off by 2015 irrespective of market price. It's only a matter of time now before this leads to further list price increases for dive watches.

Imagine how expensive your child's birthday party will be in 2 or 3 years! 😲 Balloons will be a thing of the past for the regular person, leaving only the kids from wealthy families to enjoy them. 🙁

Not a single added weight here... I wrote the other day that I at least try to post things that contribute. I am trying here...

My Electric Blue is away for service atm. I've instructed my watchmaker to purge the Helium and replace it with Krypton. Thanks for the heads up!

I had a Sea-Dweller that was over-filled, and it felt like a feather, like a plastic Swatch or some Richard Mille concoction...

Hold on a minute - I just saw this and take umbrage to your denigration of the best Invicta-looking expensive watch on the planet!

Are you sure that's a good idea? Krypton is 20x more dense than Helium. You may not be able to lift your watch off the table.

So the world helium stocks are predominantly being depleted by the use of liquid helium in MRI scanners. Each one holds between 1000 and 2000 litres. I dont think that your dive watches are going to be an important drain on this. Helium is mined (!) and mosty found in natural gas reserves in the US.

No offense, to each his own, but I don't want to feel comfortable playing golf or tennis with a Sea-Dweller on my wrist. One doesn't buy a hunk of metal like that to not feel it.

Why would you do that? You're adding weight and could effect the pressure inside the watch because of the HUGE difference in atomic mass between Helium and Krypton gas. Dude, you're gonna void the warranty if there's any left, and seriously f🤬k up your watch even if you only use it in the pool! 😲

3-4 years ago this was the norm around here. People learned a lot more. This is one reason I encourage newbies to go back and read the old posts chronologically ( no pun intended )

But Krypton is sooooo much cooler than boring old Helium and lets face it, most people are going to be impressed by a watch with some of Superman's home planet inside it 😎

Sorry, I downsized to a Sub long ago and never weighed the Sea-Dweller. I would say at least a 50g swing between depleted and properly charged... closer to a 100g difference when over-charged... but this is purely by feel, sorry to say, and not the good science you're looking for.

Dude, I think you should have chosen another Noble Gas instead of krypton. Neon is the much closer in weight to helium so it would have less chance of damaging the balance & pressure. Plus, it would give your watch a healthy glow.

Very funny , you know that 65% of people think that Krypton is real 🙄
