Beware the Redialed Seamaster Companion and Technic Dials

As the value and collectability of once ‘lower end’ vintage Omegas continues to increase, sellers and redialers are now replicating some of the more desirable dial types such as the Technic and Companion versions.
Fairly easy to tell if you’re familiar with these dials but perhaps not for those who have only a fleeting interest.

Below are some of the common redials out there at the minute. Bear in mind in almost all cases the watch in question will not have had one of these dials from the factory. They will have had a standard silver dial that’s been trashed, the watches bought cheap, often with knackered movements then redialed and polished up to look like they do now.

The are great watches, quite collectible and are worth a significant premium over their silver dialled brothers when original. However, make sure what you’re buying has an original dial and isn’t a franken.
This is a decent starting point for some of these dial types and I’ve shown a couple of common redials below.

Redialed Seamaster 300 Companion. Dial is redialed/wrong, hands are wrong, case ref is wrong (these only came in no date 165.002).

Redialed Seamaster 600 Technic. Dial is wrong/redialed, hands are wrong, case is wrong (should be 135.011).

Great point David!

As a fellow lover of these technical references (as you know 😜), I'd venture to say 90+% if not more of listings of these types of watches especially on ebay are fakes. I'm surprised to see the seamaster 300 companion have fakes, thanks for letting us know!

Your other threads have provided such powerful references and information, they are a perfect guide on these technical models!

After 60 to 80 years I think all dials and dyals are redials or have had work done on them.

30 to 40 years ago this was normal. I was disapointed. I thought I could do better. Still 30 years later I still have this project at hand to do sometime.

Thanks for the heads up David, for those not familiar with these awesome dial variations! I've noticed a lot of repainted Seamaster 600 Technical dials showing up on Ebay recently. OF is a great reference to compare with, and to see what these watches are supposed to look like.
