Beware of “The Rolex Forum”

Has anyone had any issues with “The Rolex Forum”, the specialist forum dedicated to...erm...well...Rolex 😉
I posted about wanting one myself and needing advice to be abruptly told by members “ please type your search in the search bar this thread has been posted millions of timesalready” ...not exactly helpful is it!?
Then I got banned 3 hours later because I mentioned that the Rolex Air King in my eyes was absolutely ghas tly and not to my liking at all ( only an opinion right ?) and I was permanently removed from the site on terms of “abuse of Rolex” haha. So I guess this is my new favourite forum to discuss watches, I just hope I don’t get banned from here for having an opinion.....

There are two parts to the Rolex forum - general(newer watches) and vintage. They are clearly separated by the people who frequent them. The vintage guys are really cool and helpful, just like the vintage guys here (squirrels, beavers, prairie dogs and other rodents). The generals are different, some of them are really knowledgeable and helpful, but there are also so many mentally challenged individuals who only value their own opinion and think they are watchgods. It's just like in the real world, if you pick 10 random men wearing Rolex watches you'll find out that half of them are dicks. They are easy to identify - they still have stickers on their watches. The percentage of dicks would probably be the lower if you put 10 random vintage watch guys together, but at least the dicks will be polite. These guys don't have stickers on their watches so you would have a harder time detecting them.

Secondly they were right to ban you, I know I would. Not that you deserve it, but just in case you are a troll. As stated in my previous post there are a lot of new Rolex buyers who bought a Rolex to impress people around them. Some of them like to impress others on watch forums and try to do just that on "The Rolex Forum". Because of these "enthusiasts" it's sometimes very difficult to have a normal conversation on that forum. Just been reading one topic where a one person, who made a very clever comment, was called an a-hole (I think that means asshole) by an "enthusiasts" fitting the description above. The topic is created by the "enthusiast" and is called:
"After Baselwolrd seems Deepseas are going up"

The forum admins are just trying to shield the forum from these "enthusiasts" and allow the rest of the community to have a possibility of a decent exchange of thoughts. Since it's the first Rolex forum you get when you search "rolex forum" in google, the admins have a very very hard job. Sadly, with your two posts, you seem to have fallen in the category "Troll" even without offending anyone directly. Your third post is in this forum where you explain your issue with TRF... You see where I'm going with this?
Completely agree with you that the new Airking is a very ugly watch and the AD's have a problem getting rid of them. I have expressed my opinion on the Airking countless times in TRF, every third topic is about the Airking since it's the cheapest(biggest discount) Rolex available in 40mm and is permanently stuck in the AD's inventory when every other professional SS Rolex watch sold months ago. I have also continually expressed my disgust with twotone (and my opinion on people who wear them) and rose gold watches on the same forum. Haven't been banned yet. Got some thumbs down emojis a few times.

Seems to me that the irritating Rolex enthusiast with no real watch knowledge who keeps raving about values rising may actually be Rolex's target market.

What's wrong with two-tones and Rose Gold watches? I think the two-tone Subs look quite good.

And a Rose Gold on a decent leather strap makes a nice dress watch.

is attempting to at least try and fit within the cultural norms here (at least at the outset - lots of room for oddballs here, once we get to know you).

Yes yes, we are are always looking for new oddballs to add to the collection 👍

Those weren't my watches, just a random selection from the internet. I just found this comment......
"I have also continually expressed my disgust with twotone (and my opinion on people who wear them) and rose gold watches on the same forum."
.... rather negative. Does that men if I wear a two-tone or a Rose Gold I am automatically classed a wanker?

So let me get this straight. You don't own two-tone or rose gold Rolex watches and you don't wear them (you had to download images), but are asking me what is my opinion on people wearing them?
So you are if fact standing up for the little guy, who wants to wear two-tone Rolex watches with his head raised high and not be ridiculed for his fashion choice?
Is that a cause you really believe in and would fight for even though you don't belong to that voiceless group?

Yes, you are correct. I do not own a two-tone or Rose Gold Rolex which strangely enough means I don't wear one. I just find it odd that you would condemn someone on first sight for wearing a watch you don't like.
Who says it is a fashion choice? Maybe it was a gift, maybe he inherited the watch or it has some other sentimental value.
Cause, fight, voiceless group? This a watch forum not UNICEF.
Wear an Invicta, a Hublot, two-tone or Rose Gold I really couldn't give a monkeys. I certainly wouldn't judge you for it.

Is it just me, or is the full moon bringing out the asshole (and bringing new assholes out of the woodwork) in everyone?

Late to this game so just got caught up with the 7 pages; apologies as some of this reiterates some of what's been said.

I've been part of TRF for a few years - having only ever looked/posted in the vintage section - but at least in that selection of the forum I find the central crowd of collectors fairly reasonable. There definitely are more "hey this got passed down to me" / newbie posts but I think those are a consequence of 1) rolex making a TON of watches, 2) rolex having far and away the widest brand recognition (and the positives and negatives that come with that), 3) an equal TON of fake rolexes that newbies find/are given and want to know about, 4) dealers trying to peddle the recent vintage Rolex hype by selling mediocre examples at high prices. All of that does make the fraction of educational/collector driven discussions less frequent but they are still there and about as civil as OF discussions when they happen. I also think that the lack of Rolex's openness about their watches vis a vis the Omega willingness to discuss heritage lends a lot more to speculation and investigation that most are not willing to participate in.

I haven't had any issues with the mods myself so I can't speak directly to those comments.

I hope this is more civil, @ulackfocus !

What are all the references to stickers on watches?

Rolex Hard Core FBs seem to love that hologram sticker on the caseback so they leave it there for eternity.
