Thanks. Other stupid question: if the parcel is lost and you insured up to 40k, what kind of document do you need to provide to be reimbursed?
If an expertise or other is needed, then insuring it becomes worthless if you have no "proof" of what the package was worth...

I had a pleasure to deal with Parcel Pro recently. Fedex lost my package ( was luckily found)

I had to send them them the proof of the purchase of the watch. I would need to re-read the claim file and the terms of use for you scenario. I guess it should be possible. vintage watches never have a price tag 😀 Maybe a bank/PayPal transfer proof would be sufficient

I'm thinking about sending the watch for service from EU to EU, so no proof of acquisition to justify a market value... Hmm I guess it's staying in the safe for the time being

Best option: contact them directly. They are really responsive as so many before me stated

As an update, I just completed my first ship with the aid of Parcel Pro. I have to say their service and support was excellent. A bit pricier than I expected, but still the best (and potentially only) option for a fully insured shipment.

Now FedEx on the other hand...will save that for another post 😉

Really? In my experience with ParcelPro the rates for shipping AND insurance are far cheaper than you can get for just the shipping if you were to walk into FedEx and send the parcel...

I'd like to echo my sentiments with ParcelPro. First time I've used them, but the customer service and set up was superb. And this during a holiday week!

I should have been clearer in my post...FedEx service was absolutely horrendous. Absolutely, the ParcelPro rates are better than anything the individual shippers (FedEx, Canada Post, UPS) could offer!

As well, the package I had sent was held up in US Customs for almost three weeks! This experience to me truly justifies spending a bit extra to fully insure a watch.

Apparently it is quite the ordeal to ship a Rolex into the US? Any experience with this?

The only reason a watch is typically held up in my experience is lack of the appropriate paperwork. So typically either the watch worksheet was not filled out by the sender, or the receiver needed to submit paperwork with their SSN or business information at their end...

In my situation, the appropriate documentation was provided, but between FedEx and US Customs, a hold was placed on the watch, with a fair bit of confusion on FedEx's part.

Archer any idea why US Customs requests the value of the individual components of the watch (i.e. case, movement, band)?

Because that's how US customs determines what duties apply. Can I ask what confusion you are referring to?

FedEx had a hold on the package, after it was cleared by US Customs, but they were actually unaware that this hold was in place. The package (to my knowledge) was cleared by Customs within a couple of days, however it was only after I found the right FedEx person to talk to (FedEx Trade Network) that they realized there was a hold on the package by them. After this was released, the package was delivered in two days.

Well, that's incredibly unusual in a couple of ways. First, I ship hundreds of watches a year using ParcelPro, to countries all over the world (many go to the US), and over years of using PP/FedEx, I've never had a parcel held up for 3 weeks for any reason.

Second is that I'm quite surprised that ParcelPro didn't step in, because they are typically doing everything they can to limit exposure, and are following up on parcels that have not yet made it to the destination. For example, I've had them call me after just a few days past the stated delivery window when I've had a parcel held for pick-up, and the recipient hasn't picked it up yet. They have told me if a parcel doesn't get picked up in a few days, they will arrange to send it back to cut off their liability. I would expect a parcel delayed for 3 weeks for any reason to be high on their list of things to resolve.

Based on my experience and what I know of the way they do business, this is a highly unlikely scenario to have happen again.

Cheers, Al

A question, could the buyer contact parcel pro and arrange everything and just send a shipping label to me as a seller? or even ask them to collect it?

This is possible, but note that there are very specific instructions for packing the watch that must be followed for the insurance to be valid. If the person packing the watch doesn't follow the instructions to the letter, and a claim is denied because of that, then it could be a tricky situation with who is liable and what happens from there.

Does anyone have any solid info on insurance for shipments via DHL?
Their UK website seems encouraging as it appears to authorize shipment for watches up to £4000 (see prohibited items below), but I’m wondering if those terms apply in/ from other countries. I may well check it out in any event.
  • Jewellery, costume jewellery, watches and objects constructed of precious metal and/or stones with a value in excess of £4,000 per waybill

I'm trying to ship a steel Omega RAF watch to the US, would mine fall under the 4k GBP limit? You could read the sentence above in 2 ways; 'all watches with value in excess of GBP4000', or 'watches of precious metal in excess of GBP4000'.

Yes it would still be worth under 4k GBP IMHO - however you’re bumping an old thread from years ago and the policies may have changed since. You’d need to double check what they are now.
