Has anyone shipped from US to Canada via PrcelPro? Or any methods? How much does it usually cost? And custom fees? Lets say the watch is about mid $2k. Thank you

If something had happened, you might not have been covered if it was a watch. Most of the major shipping companies have specific language excluding watches and jewelry from their insurance programs.

With ParcelPro the only options are overnight or 2nd day air, but the prices are way lower - a 2-day shipment across the US insured for $5000 would cost around $40 or $50 with ParcelPro...
Thanks for the information! That's a significant savings.

I did send the watch in a padded envelope with the watch wrapped in extra padding. My response was about the registered shipment being a secure method.

Just to clarify, I am referring to shipping from Canada (either to another location in Canada or another country), as the OP is asking about. In Canada, you can't send anything but documents using registered mail. You may have used an envelope for your shipment, but that's not really the point - if it's anything but an envelope of documents, they will not send it registered mail. The option of sending a watch via registered mail is simply not available here, no matter if you use an envelope, box, etc...

Probably around $50. Customs duty varies by country and your best bet for that would be to check Canada's customs service's website.

I would be cautious with generalizations regarding the costs - the devil is in the details. Prices from ParcelPro will depend on several factors, such as the locations being shipped from and to*, the dimensional weight of the parcel, and amount of insurance coverage. It can all be calculated ahead of time using tables that they will send you when you sign up.

Of course customs clearance fees, duties, and taxes may apply, but that depends on the receiving countries rules. With any courier, a parcel is not going to slip through the cracks the way it can with postal service.

* - In Canada there are a number of remote locations that can add significantly to the costs of shipping to that location. I've shipped watches to all 10 provinces and 3 territories, and the additional fees for locations in the North where the courier (FedEx, UPS) doesn't service the area directly and they hand off to another local carrier can be eye watering.

Cheers, Al

When I shipped my GMT2 to RSC/Dallas recently I used registered mail and insured it through the USPS. This was per Rolex's instructions.

I generally prefer FedEx as I've never had a problem with them. UPS on the other hand has been spotty. Damages packages both incoming and outgoing, plus a lost package I sent.

I’ve started using CGI instead of Parcel Pro. Just shipped an AP Royal Oak from Denver to Dallas overnight and insured for $14,000 USD and it cost $60.

How is their claim process? With Parcel Pro I've read many positive reviews of filing claims and getting money back quickly.

I don’t have any experience making claims with them. They have similar terms and conditions to ParcelPro (https://centinelcorp.com/termsconditions) and those need to be followed to support your claim.

There was a thread on the forum recently about one member's experience with the claims department, I believe he ended up finding the package.

That was with ParcelPro...not the company BN is referring to...

Agreed that customs charges are variable, and here in glorious Canada can be very significant...definitely needs to be taken into consideration!

In case you cannot without having to call them, anyone know the average cost Parcel Pro charges to ship and insure about $5000 West coast to East coast of the US?
I ship a lot with them. I would expect this to be under $40 insured for Fedex 2-day

Just signed up with them, and although I am yet to ship my first watch, the customer service thus far has been excellent!

I'm from Europe and use DHL. In Europe the delivery time it's next day. I sent three times and all arrives very fast and good tracking.
I thought DHL doesn't insure watches?

Greetings @Baco Noir, do CGI insure isolated shipments or does one have to open an account and how difficult is the process?
I've reached out to Parcel Pro as I'm now planning on selling several watches and they say they need 3 references within the watch industry, that one is not guaranteed that the application will be accepted, etc.

Anyone has any advice?
Thanks and best regards,
S

I used business associates in the Advertising Industry and had no problems. My suggestion is to use your Paris network. EG your watch maker, business associates etc.

Thanks for the advice @Larry S, I thought they needed people in the watch industry to act as references who are also account holders?
Are you saying people who have no Parcel Pro accounts can be references? And people who are not in the watch industry?
I can guarantee you my watchmaker doesn’t have a ParcelPro account. He checks his emails once a month if he ever does.

No they don't have to be Parcel Pro accounts. Just people you know and do business with.
