Best option to sell OMEGA Aquaterra and SMP 300

Hello,

I overdid my watch shopping last year and need to sell one or two of my OMEGA watches. What is the option that is the safest and where I can get the most for them?

What is the best way to determine a fair price? I fully understand that I will never get what I paid for a watch in most cases.

Both watches were bought last year at an OMEGA boutique (Aquaterra 41 steel blue, blue seconds hand on 5/15/21 and SMP300 white dial 10/2/21). Both have box and papers, and both were purchased on the bracelet and I bought the OEM rubber strap with folding clasp for both.

Thanks for your help!

JP

You can't sell here until you have reached 200 posts.

Look in eBay, filter to SOLD listings to get an idea of current sale prices.

Welcome JP. As said above, you can’t post a FS listing until you reach 200 meaningful posts (to avoid the hit & run sellers), but seeing as you already made a fun avatar and have some nice Omegas- clearly you have already thought about checking things out around here.

As said above, EBay sold listings really is the true market value- it is what the market will bear at a given time even if we don’t agree with it. Chrono24 has a lot of dealers with premium markups and private sellers that think they can ask dealer premium markups (don’t think so), so it’s tough to get a real sense of the market there.

If you’re not itching to sell fast, stick around and join in on the conversations- we love all watches, not just Omega as you will discover, and some of the topics here off watches can be fun as well. 200 posts can come quickly and it gives potential buyers here an idea of who you are just by spending a little time with us.

Do you need the money? If not, you might as well hang onto them for a while. Watch the WTB posts on the various sites, including this one. I have a dozen Omega watches at this point, and I wear them all, eventually, though some are more often than others. So if you think you have too many, plenty of us probably have a lot more.

If you want to sell fast eBay auctions are the fastest. Start at 1 Euro and watch as the bid increase and in the last seconds cross your fingers and hope for the best.

I will do that, I am aware that what people are asking for is not what the items are really being sold for. I just want it to be fair for both parties. I went to a local jeweler and they offered 2000 for the white dial SMP300 and 1500 for the blue dial Aqua Terra; I found this offer pretty insulting.

Is WTB “Want To Buy”?

What other serious forums are there? I don’t need the money but I have come to realize that I also don’t need many watches. I was able to get my dream watch and find myself not wanting to wear anything else. I know myself and don’t want to fall into a financial rabbit hole 😀

I am always a bit skeptical about eBay, especially for something like an OMEGA watch, but I will definitely take a look at the sold listings to get a better sense of true market value.

Thank you for welcoming me, I am not itching to sell fast but I would like to.

This is a brand new world for me!

Perhaps watchuseek.com and maybe the Omega forum at timezone.com. Not as nice as this group of bozos (and yes, I include myself), but they do exist.

And yes, WTB is wanted to buy.

Omega is popular on Reddit. You might want to check out r/Watchexchange and r/watch_swap

If you try to sell your watches to a reseller you must expect to receive an offer under market value. Add 50% to what your local jeweler offered and you'll be pretty close to what you can get for them on the secondary market.

Watchcharts.com is also another reference you can use to determine a price.

Have a chat with some of the guys here, apparently eBay as a buyer rather than seller is the less complicated way to use it due to cost and risk vs say CH24.

Watchuseek forums aren't bad, though like here, they do have a post minimum before you can post. Reddit is also a good option with its own requirements to post. Having a presence there certainly helps. Failing those two (or here on OF), eBay is your quickest option with the built-in buyer, seller, and authentication protection built in.
