I must admit that knowing I can get back in the saddle without damaging my health has really lifted my spirits plus an hour on the trainer left me feeling great 👍👍👍

Indeed, good on ya for having done so too!
Moving one's body, a thing done far too seldom these days in modern life, is not only one of the most simple joys of being alive but does so many great things for not only the body but the mind as well.

A balmy -2 degrees celsius for the first ride of 2023 today. Winter riding sucks but it must be done!

A bit to chilly and wet and salty and otherwise unpleasant to ride today, so we’ll just drag one inside and tinker with it.

Well our winter is rain only, next week as well. My training is suffering a bit, but I have to keep going

I've been toying with the idea of replacing my TCR with a gravel bike of some sort.
The TCR is getting old. Nothing wrong with it, but I'd really like to upgrade to electronic shifting, and I feel like I might as well at that point just get something totally new.
I've always loved trail riding (did it before I picked up road but have been out of it for almost 10 years now), and would like to get back into it a bit...but not hardcore full suspension trail riding.
I'm wondering if a gravel bike could do it all for me? Enough of a road bike to still hit the pavement, and an enough of an off-roader to hit some trails.
I could always pick up a road specific wheel/tire combo and swap out as needed. Thoughts?

I wouldn't say a gravel bike replaces a road bike but it certainly is a lot of fun to ride one.

I'm not a hardcore rider in either segment. I don't count grams and also don't need to be the fastest.
I realize it would not be a direct replacement, but for what I'm doing, I think that would be ok lol.
In my mind, a carbon framed gravel bike shouldn't be TOO far off. But I have no clue!
I've never even been on one before, so perhaps that's just where I should start...

Actually, I yesterday had my 'new bike day'. I had a Scott Addict bike which I used purely for the road. But ever since I rode the Trek Domane at Mallorca, I really was hooked on this bike, so I bought it last week.
It's super comfortable through the Isospeed mechanism and can accomodate up to 38mm tires. I read quite a bit of people using it for gravel - perhaps not single track, but certainly lighter gravel.

Here's my road setup with the wheels i had on my old bike.

The bike itself came with Bontrager wheels that are actually 25mm inner width, perfect for gravel! I have this as a spare wheelset at home, this is how it looks like at someone else's bike - i'll try it out with mine on Saturday!

great to see fellow cyclists making it happen on the roads.

here's my steed: 2022 canyon endurace. the first one died after a year of riding when the bb displayed a crack.
"don't ride your bike when you're on crack! 😉 after receiving my $$ back, bought this available cyn and i like
this bike even more.

The frame is a work of art.
There's hardly any gap between the frame and the headset.
My first proper MTB was a Trek and it's still going 21 years on albeit only the frame and chainset are original

That is a classy paint job, and a great looking ride 👍.

If I'm sticking with a dedicated road bike, the Endurance is way up on my list.

Now that spring has officially arrived, skiis are put away, mountain bikes are in the shop and both the road & gravel bikes are all ready to go! First gravel race of the season is in a month but I just need the ten feet of snow still on the ground to melt away quick so I can really start training 😲

Hmmm….it all depends on the type of riding you are really after. Like watches, there are just a ton of options you can go with. If you still want your road fix without sacrificing too much weight, flex etc then go with an endurance bike. A lot of of endurance bikes nowadays can accommodate a wide variety of tire sizes. I can’t remember which endurance bike it was but I can recall it accommodating up to a 44mm tire! Grab a second set of dedicated ‘gravel’ wheelset and just swop them between the road. Good luck man!

Pleasant ride out, this morning, along the country lanes of Worcestershire, UK. Rapeseed in full bloom. Not a fan of the stuff - much prefer olive oil (Popeye isn’t happy) 😉
