Thanks! Was a tough one for sure. Feeling pretty good today. Was a little too windy to head out for a recovery ride this morning. Anyone have experience with the Peloton app on a trainer? I want to get an indoor setup and my wife wants a Peloton. Wondering if I can get away with a trainer setup that I can get on Zwift with and my wife can occasionally use the Peloton app from there. She's all for it if it's workable. Seems like we can, she'd just miss out on some of the metrics and the leaderboard in Peloton.
Get her a Peloton and invest some money into buying gear to ride outside. I'm in the Northeast and ride year round, save the wet. I do have Zwift, but I also don't have a wife that would be happier with a Peloton.
HA! I definitely opt to ride outside as often as possible, but wanted to start a training program in a controlled environment. Buddy of mine has been doing something similar and he absolutely smashed his PR by over 2 minutes on a local climb our group has sort of used as a indicator of where we're all at. He's also climbed it less than the rest of us, so what he's been doing has clearly been working.
Have you used an actual Peloton bike before? I only ask because I don't really want to go into a lot of detail if you already know how it works lol. I have personally never used the Peloton app on a trainer, and while I'm sure it would work, there are a couple of issues I could foresee. But nothing you couldn't work around. One issue that comes to mind is figuring out resistance. On the bike, you obviously spin the knob. During the class it will give you a range of resistance to be in and then you get an actual read out of where your resistance is set. With a bike on a trainer, you would just sort of have to guess, and switch gears accordingly. Unless there are some new smart trainers out there that can do something like that. I don't know... Also, will you all be sharing a bike or does she have her own? She may not like your seat, reach, height...blah blah blah. I do like your idea of going the trainer route, because instead of spending $2500 on a Peloton bike, you can get her a real bike that she can use inside AND outside with you. That would also eliminate having to share a trainer specific bike. I bought a Peloton for my wife back in may. She loves it. But shes always like spin classes (I do not). I don't have much interest in the Peloton personally. I would much rather have a smart trainer with Zwift. I think there is even a way to use Zwift on a Peloton, but I have never really looked into it (it includes some "hacking" and power meter pedals). Here is a link: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/06...inerroad-on-a-peloton-bike-a-geeks-guide.html We used to ride together but she stopped about 3 years ago, a little before we had our first kid, and shes just never really got back into it. Which was a bummer because I had bought her a nice TCR a few months before she got pregnant lol. That bike has probably been ridden 3 times in the last 3 years. And with another baby due any day I imagine it will continue to sit...
I used to put my bike on a Kurt Kinetic trainer during the winter months but I never got into. For me, it was boring and it was never even close to putting the tire on the tarmac. Although I dispraise winter and cold weather riding, I do my best to bundle up and force myself out as much as possible. Even more so this winter since my wife has bought me new winter cycling shoes so her expectations will be high
I haven't, but get the idea. I wondered about this. When I asked her, she said she figured she can apply the highest resistance on her end that allows her to follow the cadence of the class. We'd be sharing, but I'm leaning towards the KICKR Bike and we'd adjust positions when needed. She enjoys taking spin classes, but hasn't done a ton of them to begin with. I'd rather buy the setup I know I'd use in case she decides she's over it in a couple of months. She currently has no desire to ride on the road as she hates the idea of being that close to cars. I'm curious about how I'll end up taking to it. I'll always prefer being outside, but am pretty good about sticking w/a training program. Time will tell!
A normal day in the UK for riding, torrential rain, riding in a cloud and more slop than you can shake a stick at. Great fun.
Nice scenery, enjoy (I'm a bit jealous, here in France it is lockdown all over again : 1h per day max, 1km from the house, so no biking other than going to work for the foreseeable future).
Yesterday was for sure a great day for a bike ride! The burgers were one of the many highlights of our journey! Most def a fun day!
Wow that sucks I’m trying to stay focused on the training. My first race for 2021 still on, so staying focused with everything going on is even harder. Elections on Tuesday to cap it off. Stay safe
Usually, the weather in my area this time of the year averages 6 degrees celsius. This weekend, nothing but sunshine and around 21 degrees! Wow! So took advantage and did some trail running yesterday and a mountain/gravel one two punch today
Yes it’s a real slopfest out there at the moment. I bought myself a 12v mobile jet washer and it’s the best thing I’ve purchased in a long while. I drive to my local trails and this thing gets most of the crap off before it goes back in the car. Highly recommended if you don’t already own one.
I've seen those in the carparks, have considered in the past. Usually I just stick it on the roof and put my foot down, blows the mud off
This past weekend we had another great day to enjoy a bike ride! We started early in the morning as there are not many days w/this type of weather remaining in the year, so we hit the trail again, logged more kilometers, enjoyed the scenery, and of course....a few brews along the way
