another Ocean Star with a smaller heritage design
This one is pretty funky? Or is it the plain blue or black Tribute?

Nice as the Midos are, I still think the Tudor is well worth the (RRP) asking price. Not sure why you're so down on them. My BB58B is hopefully arriving tomorrow 😀

Not saying I'm against the Tudor - it's pretty cool and I'm liking it more and more with each photo! But I don't think it's the value everyone thinks it is, is all. It's well-priced and I agree absolutely worth its MSRP (even if I won't be buying it for now) but just not something I'd consider a bargain or a value play.

Yeah, that Mido is pretty cool, isn't it? I wish it had a steel bezel like the original though. But I'm probably gonna end up buying the black-dial Ocean Star Tribute now 🤦

Idiots everywhere - see Phillips XI auction results
Yeah a dealer I know said its rigged though. He was offered to co-own a watch on the auction together with 8 others. He said no but all the other 8 were bidding on their own watch to get up the price. Its hard to believe but it's even more hard to believe that watches like Hulk and others that can be purchased easily from well known dealers go for 4 times market price.

Something is certainly strange with those auctions that is for sure. At least they does not make sence from an honest market perspective.

Not sure that’s true. The original 58 is still hard enough to come by (on bracelet at least). I’ve only ever seen one in an AD twice In 2yrs. Still a fairly hard to come by piece.
I believe there are two reasons to pay substantially above list price for a mass produced watch:
1; You want it now and x thousand dollars does not make a difference
2; The buyer believe that the premium will stay or increase.
I think no 1 buyers on a Tudor are few. Also there should not be a problem getting this watch within a year even without AD relationship.

The no 2 buyers are in my opinion the ones to blame for the crazy market we have now with large premiums over list price for various models. That because it feeds the ones that go on the waiting list for watches only to sell and then it works in a bad sprial with longer lists and higher premiums and so on. To believe in such as scenario for this watch I believe is stupid. But lets see. I am on the waiting list at an AD I dont know at all and I was about one week late. If I get a call within a year, any kind of premium is in my opinion stupid. 😀

There is a new Tudor BB58 (black) for sale in the Watches For Sale section by an established dealer. It’s got a 2020 dated Tudor manufacturer warranty card and a bracelet just in case anyone wants it. It’s not mine but it’s listed at $3,900

That’s fine and that’s your opinion.

there are also a lot of people out there for whom paying an extra 600-1000 bucks to have it on their wrist today will get the enjoyment for longer and thus don’t mind shelling out the extra.

Whether that makes them stupid, I don’t know. It just means they have a different opinion to you.

my response to you was that you said that it would be easy to get one of these without the resellers. I merely pointed out that it’s not that easy a piece to get irrespective of that.

i remember basically getting a chuckle from the SA everytime I asked at Tourneau about black bay 58. It was that or oh sorry you just missed it, sold this morning, please check back. I didnt even get to try on the watch well until one of our local watch group's gatherings. Then and again, Ive never bought anything at the AD except for the occasional spring bar. It is likely I will also get laughed out the AD for asking about the Blue Bay 58.

Same experience for me. This week I asked about putting a deposit down for the older model and they wouldn't do it. I'd be so far down the list they didn't feel comfortable taking my money. At least they didn't laugh at me and offered the standard 20% off any Omega in the case.

I can't believe the original black bay 58 is still hard to find. I've seen several, on leather and bracelet in jewellers over the last 6 months.

Here we go then 😀 I think it looks so much better in person than in the pictures.

Excellent - really nice. It does look better in the metal. It hasn’t been off my wrist for a week.

Just picked up a really nice Mido Ocean Star. Titanium w/ titanium bracelet, really nicely finished in a nice package. $1,040 MSRP; the only area that isn't refined is the bezel action.

I thought it'd be a fun beater but it's so well done I'm likely going to buy the two other Midos I've had my eye on, another Ocean Star with a smaller heritage design, and a pulsations watch. All three bought at MSRP would cost less than a BB58 at MSRP (assuming you can purchase it new anytime soon). In real terms from an AD or on the secondary market, I could probably come in nearly $2k below what I'd have to spend on a BB58 if I decided right now I wanted to buy one.

The Tudors are nice but there's much better value out there if that's what you're looking for.

All entry level Swatch group makers, (Mido, Tissot, Hamilton, Certina and of course Longines) make great watches and offer tremendous value, but my point was more in terms of price comparison and watches costing £2500-£3,000 rrp and two weeks in I'm more convinced than ever that there's not much to touch it.

If I remember correctly they put a steinhart bracelet on. It’s talked about earlier in this thread.

edited to add: @jhross98 its talked about on the previous page. It’s a steinhart jubilee bracelet.
