Every one I have gotten that was running fast was from the mainspring either hanging up on itself (oil or gunk) or it was slightly kinked up in some way.

Once they have been straitened out (if they can be by someone who knows what they are doing), and after a service they run perfectly.

Balance spring I think you meant to say...

I know that with some of the cheap divers, the off the shelf movements were fairly compatible with hands and dials. I would be curious if you could swap a Felsa or FHF 17 jewel (which can be had for $25 running) into one of these if the movement/ dial configuration is the same. Anyone tried to that?

I think the dial feet would be in the wrong spot in most cases, but for the right price, nothing a few dial-dots couldn't fix!

Also @JimJupiter I want that Dugena! Dibs!

I want to play:

Calendar Auto Orient for $350

Waltham Elctrodyne for like $100 (Lip R184 movement)

All three Titoni Seascopers for only $200 total

Original bracelets were an additional $100

Each Lip Nautic Ski was under $350

Alsta Nautoscaphe for $20

See my post above. My watchmaker restored the movement for less than I paid for the watch! I’m in uk and happy to share details.

I bought the watch for $30 and shipping it to and from my watchmaker would probably cost nearly as much alone, lol

Yes- I need to not type when sober. I’ve had a few show up running fast and it has made me wonder if the sonic vibration or something during air flight (I know-watches fly daily with no issue) in cargo or perhaps something during shipping could be causing this- what are the chances of so many showing up with the same symptoms?!. I had an Elgin (posted
in a thread last year) show up in the mail that ran fast (seller said it ran perfectly) and it turned out the balance spring was slightly sticking to itself. Just taking it out and putting it back in resolved the issue before even cleaning it.

But I’m seriously curious about the movement swap with some of these 1 jewel watches as I have seen several with stunning dials and perfect (albeit plated) cases that I don’t buy just because they are 1 jewel. If a better movement could be swapped in (even with dial dots), it could open up a few fun options considering the watches and the Felsa/FHF movements are dirt cheap

Ok, I’ll play:
Alpha diver- eBay for around $80
BelAir Seapearl traded with @WYO_Watch for a tidy Helbros (who needs to be tapped into this thread)- bracelet is mine- just trying it out.

Yeah- one of my (and many others) fav’s cheap divers.

What’s funny is when I get something oddball like that (Sears knocked that one out of the park in every way) and share it with the collective- it feels like a group win. One of us got such a neat watch, wether I get it or someone else does- it feels like we all got a prize...don’t know if I’m the only one that feels that way.

$200 Bulova Super compressor.

Star gear "stripped". Sorry, Mr Seller, it just needed to be serviced.

I’ll ask my watchmaker. My Cronel will come back today from having movement restored. He said they’re simple movements but with only one jewel “there’s a lot of metal on metal”!

This from my watchmaker about changing movements “I guess it's possible but would need to be the correct ligne movement and the holes for the dial feet would have to be correct”
And back on my wrist buttery smooth!! I can’t believe dial was deep blue originally.

This thread is driving me nuts. I love these old skindivers so much, but at 36 or 37mm max most of them are too small for my wrist, and all the 38 and above models are already high in demand enough that they're expensive.

If anyone wants to trade a 38mm+ skindiver for this cool little guy, let me know 😁

Embrace the small, give into the small, small is large....ohmmmmm

seriously- just wear watches under 36mm for a solid week, no big watches. Put the Speedy back on and it feels like a dinner plate. You just have to adjust.
