Regarding the Bo'ness hill climb, was that the year that this flew over?

Afraid not, I missed that one.

One more.

@pitpro don't want to turn this thread into a mine's bigger than yours (although it is 😉) so I'll stop being petty.
If your M5 really can do 0-100mph in 3.2 seconds as stated let me know how much you want for it as I'll buy it off you and fly it back to England

Making 560 crank. So. 490ish wheel it would need a hella tire and or AWD . And it could probably do 0-100 "kph" in 3.2 but that's still pushing it

They're actually not hard on tires at all, its surprisingly difficult to even break traction in the V10 M5/M6 unless you're trying as its not an engine that makes that much torque, last time I drove one of those V10s it was on 295 Michelin PSS rears and it felt like it was glued to the road, AWD would be pointless unless you were trying to go rallying in it.

Its actually a slightly underwhelming car until you pass 4,000 and realise you're not even halfway to the rev limit, and even that isn't the real rev limit, BMW built the engine to rev to over 10,000 and make dramatically more power then detuned it to only ~500 to make it more customer and emissions friendly. What makes it quick is the massive amount of usable powerband and the immense speed that SMG3 box can shift into second (something I'm not good at, in the S5/S6 modes unless you can lift and get back on exactly in sync with the box it feels like you've been rear-ended by a large truck when it changes gear).

Its a shame they never did an M6 CSL to show what the V10 was really capable of without the nanny state tuning, and now with turbos taking over we'll never get to see that sort of thing again.

' its surprisingly difficult to even break traction in the V10 M5/M6 unless you're trying'
Trying is the operative.
"M" button on, S6, Traction control off, "rubber" in first 3 gear changes on mine

'What makes it quick is the massive amount of usable powerband and the immense speed that SMG3 box can shift into second'
60 milliseconds, when it came out faster than Ferrari gearboxes (100ms)
and it's actually a manual transmission with an automated computer controlled Real clutch as opposed to a torque converter fluid based automatic
Really cool to hear it drop the revs slightly to shift.

' (something I'm not good at, in the S5/S6 modes unless you can lift and get back on exactly in sync with the box it feels like you've been rear-ended by a large truck when it changes gear).'
You get used to it.
That slam you feel is the 60ms shift in "M" mode , basically what us old U,S. gearheads
call a "power shift" , as in minimal clutching, and it's a serious slam back in your seat.

Its a shame they never did an M6 CSL to show what the V10 was really capable of without the nanny state tuning, and now with turbos taking over we'll never get to see that sort of thing again.
The closest thing to this was the Dinan Stroker kit for $40,000
Bumped the hp to 628hp (no turbo, no supercharger)
And BMW would honor the factory warranty.
Turbos are great but just not the same.

40k for a rotating assembly... holy hell And only make 628. I think a $500 nitrous kit on a 100 shot would be a better way to go . And to think my LQ4 long block was less than 1k. And I only have about 5k in it. And it will make 800+ on the right fuel

Bone stock 1/4 mi time for E60 M5 is 12.3 @117mph (no slouch)
Here's a guy that did 10.57 @ 130.19mph with Nitrous Shot
So if it's 507hp stock, what's that in Nitrous?
I won't post the vid, I posted enough, but check it out

10.50s @130 is moving. He is also AWD but as far as nitrous goes. It is gauged by HP. It depends on what he is jetted fo. 50 shot "around 50hp" 100 shot "100hp" and so on. There is no telling what shot he was running I'd figure at least a 150-200 shot

If they made the M5 AWD the torches and pitchforks would be out in front of the Munich office, its the same reason they'll never delete the 3-pedal manual options, the customer backlash would be vicious.

They're copping enough flack for daring to release the FWD "Active Tourer" 2-Series with a BMW badge on it as it is.

The next M5 will be AWD. Here are some photos of it testing: http://www.autoblog.com/2015/01/23/bmw-m5-awd-spy-shots/

The E60 M5 was planned to be SMG only and I think it was sold that way in Europe. The US and some other regions got a manual option a couple years after launch, but I remember that it was a pretty hastily developed car. Despite all the complaining, I'd guess that more than 90% of them are sold with the automatic anyway.

M5 is RWD only
150 shot it said
My apologies fellas for being miss informed about the Ms only being RWD. I saw the AWD motorsports sticker on his back glass. And I assumed the Ms were like the xi line.

I saw the Alpha badge and made a mental note
to look it up later. OMFG. !! Streetcar.
This thing is a coffin.

Now what would make you say that? Oh, perhaps this…

0–60mph: 1.63 seconds

60–130mph: 2.91 seconds

Yikes!

I was behind one of these on the expressway going home
yesterday. I had never seen one. I thought hmmm, GT-R,
these are fast. I saw the Alpha badge and made a mental note
to look it up later. OMFG. !! Streetcar. Didn't sound nuts either.

That's a beast. I've been in a GT-R Nismo which is the quickest car I've ever been in but that thing is bonkers fast.

This is my very rare (only 2 made) 1963 Lotus Cortina Ogle allegedly owned by Sir Stirling Moss. The Ford Cortina GT modified by Ogle is a car designed by the Ogle Design Organisation for Stirling Moss, to fulfill his personal requirements for a four seater GT car. Stirling Moss specification required a balanced relationship between performance-comfort- economy - and a reasonable purchase price. It was important to him that his car should be based on a proven production car, for which service was freely available.
